Silver City, NM

Im trying to plan a portion of a trip in the next couple weeks that will get me close to Silver City, NM so we can visit the Gila Cliff dwellings. It'll be cold at night and just have the stock battery and no gen so I'm limited to dry camping one night at a time using the heater which I will do at City Of Rocks state park. Only site left. The other two nights, it seems I won't be able to avoid an RV park. Trying to decide between Monzanos, and Rose Valley in Silver City. I like the idea of Burro Mountain Homestead, but not sure I'm ready to beat up my new trailer on the road that leads to it.

Any input is appreciated. Let me know what I'm missing. Trying to be within an hour of Silver City. Preference is to avoid RV parks/resorts.

I really enjoyed this place a couple years ago when visiting that area.

You can check Rock Hound SP also near Deming and I stayed at this place two days ago, I stay here as I have relatives in town. Little Vineyard RV Park & Resort Info, Reviews, Photos. RV Parky | RV Parks & Campgrounds Directory, Reviews, Photos site is really helpful in finding sites near most any area.

The one right in the middle of the city is nice: Silver City RV Park & Self Storage
We stayed there a couple of nights.
They have a little coffee shop and you can walk to DT Silver City (about a mile walk)

Thanks guys. Sound like I can't really go wrong with much in the area. Rock hound was booked. I am doing one night without hookups at City of Rocks.

City of Rocks is cool and you aren't too far from Deming NM if you need anything.

Camped at City of Rocks in the spring of 2013. Campground was full of amateur astronomers with their telescopes. Seems like the City of Rocks is a stargazing paradise, due to the remote location and very little urban sky glow - a spectacular view of the milky way. A couple of stargazers let us view the sky through their telescopes, and it was unlike anything I had ever seen before. The next day we dropped our trailer at Home Depot in Silver City, and drove to the Gila Cliff dwelling for the day. It's a tough climb if you're out of shape, but worth the hike. After we returned to Silver City and picked up the trailer and supplies. We found a primitive campground on N US180 for night. (sorry, name escapes me) Have a great trip.

Pinos Altos is interesting and the Buckhorn has been a nice dinner stop. Deming to Silver City is about an hour.

I decided to go with the City RV park. Not really what I'd normally book, but I like the idea of being able to walk to the grocery store and getting a good coffee from the little coffee shop on property. I'll report back after my stay. One thing with having an RV, even if the hotel isn't the greatest, the rooms are nice.

What I'm really looking forward to is after those two nights in town, heading to City of Rocks.

So, for those who'd consider heading heading out to Silver City, NM..... We spent one night at the Silver City RV park. People were fantastic, the staff and the residents we spoke to were super nice. Even got a signed book from the resident published author. And donuts in the coffee shop were outstanding. It was however, a little too urban for us. Sirens, motorcycles, street lights and a bit cramped. We relocated to Rose Valley Ranch about 1-2 miles away. Doesn't have the people factor but the park is night and day. Feels rural, private sites, dark, quiet. Just a very nice place. Highly recommend this place.

But, again the folks at Silver City RV park were a pleasure to meet. Also, if you want to walk to places in town, it's ideal.
