Solar eclipse this summer - crazy busy, be careful

So, we are going to see the solar eclipse in a very small town in Alliance, Nebraska. Two small campgrounds, maybe 30 spots.

Anyway, the town is opening 800, yes 800 dry spots for the eclipse weekend (Aug. 21st). That is in one small town.

I read that a million people could descend on Yellowstone, Jackson, and the Tetons. It will be crazy. I read an ad on AirBNB, 12,000 a night for a house in Jackson.

We will be in the area the week before, but will move on to Alliance before the craziness begins in Wyoming. If you are planning on going, and camping, prepare in advance.

And of course, enjoy.

We gave up on the trip for many of the reasons you mentioned. Have fun though!

Generally speaking, we zig when everyone else is zagging. Head out on a monday, when everyone else is clogging the opposite lanes on the highway going to work. This number of 'campers' congregating in a few key areas over a single day is a no-starter for us

I am tempted to take a cessna up and do a fly over. Would be cheaper and less stress at the end of the day.

Envious of everyone that has access to private land and has an opportunity to actually go camping during the mania.
