South East Oklahoma campgrounds.

I spent a bit of time around Tahoka on a project years back.
Of course, I went as cheap and convenient as possible for monetary reasons.

That said, I loved the country and the people for the most part.
Any recommendations for campgrounds around the SE OK area for further sightseeing and recreation?

Thanks.

Antlers is a pretty area, pretty much anywhere around Broken Bow Lake is good. It all depends on what you want to do and what you consider SE. Robber's Cave is really nice (forget I'm in OK) but from Abilene that might be too far north.

Correction.
"Atoka" area. There may not be a Tahoka in OK.

I've been on the plains too long.

Cedar lake cg in the national forest. $16 per nite with water and electric and some sites on shore of 80 acre lake. If you have Nat Parks senior pass, its half price, Nice CG about 75 miles north of Broken Bow. Open all year.

It all depends on what you want to see and do. Kitty and I grew up in the Broken Bow area and return several times per year to visit relatives. Broken Bow Lake area has become a “tourist trap” area with plenty of tourist activities. If you are seeking water sports, there is also, Pine Creek Lake, Hugo Lake and McGee Lake all east of Atoka. Lake Texhoma, west of Durant, Ok, has “Stripper Bass” fishing.
If you want to see historical sites, check out Wheelock Academy east of Valliant, Ok. Gardner Mansion, east of Broken Bow, Ok. Garland Cemetery east of Tom, Ok. These are all on private property, but available to the public.

A follow up to an earlier post....If you camp in that area in the summer, you will need that second AC unit. Humidity is about 150%.
