Southern Colorado

Good morning.
Looking for any feedback on camping south of Colorado Springs. Have a few days to spend before camping at Cheyenne Mountain on our way from Durango and would like to try something new.
Thanks for any help

We just returned from a trip and ended up staying in the Woodland Park area, though not far from the Springs, it allowed us a little longer stay than Cheyenne Mountain did. I was hoping to get a look at the state park where you are planning but we never did. Woodland Park has many rv type campgrounds, and this was our first experience with this type of park. Compared to some others we saw in the area, Diamond Lake, where we stayed was a little better, but the sites were quite close together, and majority of the folks stay for the entire summer, some even keep their units there for the year, though they close Oct 1. For us, it was simply a place to stay for the week, with full hook ups and be able to explore some sites nearby, (loved the zoo) as well as fishing. Nothing special, but fun to see how permanent some folks make their rig!

Might check out Garden of the Gods Campground. It's on the NW side of the Springs, but the city isn't really that big from north to south. Other than that, I know of a KOA in Fountain, just south of the Springs about 10 miles.

Going with your search south of CS, there's a very nice KOA at Colorado City, about 20 miles south of Pueblo if you're looking for full hookups. There is a KOA just south of CS but I was not happy with the management there. Mueller, south of Divide, is great, but about 22 miles west and a few more south of CS. It has some electrical hookups but this is camping season and the park is very popular, so if you head that way, be sure to call first.
