Has anyone camped at Starved Rock State park in Illinois? If so, how are the campsites? I noticed the campground map says some are semi-wooded, wooded and non-wooded. Do I have to be worried about length and slide-outs?
We stayed on site 87 last year and it was nice. It was late April and not as crowded. I would stick to the length recommendations posted on the website. I'm fairly novice at backing up but was able to manage it. Here are some pictures of our campsite. It may help you.
If you notice in the top pictures the picnic table next to our chairs. We were at the fire having s'mores and the marshmallows were on the end of the table closest to us. We heard a noise, looked, and a raccoon snatched our marshmallows and ran into the woods.
Honestly it was ok for us. But from now on we are going to stay at Comlara park (an hour south on I39) and drive to starve rock for the day and drive back. Much nicer and more space. Have fun!
Starved Rock is an awesome park......the campground is just average...not spectacular, but not bad either. I don't think you will have to worry about your slideots at all. Alcohol is not allowed in the campground. Have a great time and try to hike all the canyons!
