Texas Port A beach camping

The future wife and I got a tip from a forum member about boondocking on the beach at Port Aransas. We’re gonna be hauling a chocolate lab and a basset hound that actually swims lol. Any advice on beach camping and how to deal with sand everywhere? We leave in 3-4 weeks.

This is at Port A inMarch of 2015. Great time, one of my all time favorite Boondocking locations.

Take a broom to sweep often, and don’t sweat the small stuff like getting sand in the trailer. Learn the habits of the high tides, and keep clear.

Place a pan of fresh water near the door of your camper. When you put your feet or sole of your shoes in the water, the water will break the surface tension of the sand and the sand will fall to the bottom of the pan.

The dogs are going to be your biggest problem as far as the "mess" goes. Our dog used to make a HUGE mess in the camper when we went to the beach.

Iraqvet05 is absolutely right about the pan of water by the front door ... and the other stuff too.

Our favorite place is right near the boardwalk for Gulf Waters RV Resort, but the beach can get pretty narrow down there. The further toward Port A and the beach pylons you get, the wider the beach is and the less you have to worry about waking up in water.

ETA: We're actually headed down there tonight. Staying two nights at Pioneer.

Here's another one. We were down for "Beach'n Jeeps" last year. You can't see it, but we're literally less than 50 feet inside the "free parking" section (MM 58 I think).

We pick the new TT up this Friday. I hope this great weather holds up for us. Spent this past weekend in CC Texas and it was crazy. Drove the 4X4 on the port A beach and almost got stuck. I love Texas and the crazy weather. Lol

Dang man! What were you doing that you almost got stuck? I'll admit I'm usually pretty conservative, don't really want to pay for tow out of the remote beach, but even when I'm being more aggressive, I've never been close to getting stuck out there. I usually try to remember to drop a shovel in the vehicle too...

Dropped my old (2015; sold that truck after we moved into a motorhome) Ram 2500 into 4-low and toodled off into deep loose sand without a care in the world. Same with the Wrangler, found some dodgy spots way down the National Seashore where I didn't NEED 4-low, but it sure made it easier. Now mostly we're exploring in the Grand Cherokee (it has low-range transfer case too). But even that one is pretty darn capable. Was visiting Port O'Connor and found some trails through the marsh and had a grand old time. Still never got close to getting stuck.

Last weekend when we were down at Port A, I had a nearly insatiable urge to mash the throttle on the GC and start cutting donuts on the beach. With that vehicle, you can turn the transfer case dial to "Sand" and it will turn off all the nanny controls (traction/stability control), so it will let you get a little crazy. I resisted mostly. Just cut a half-moon once...

You’re gonna laugh at me Bob but it was on the concrete approach at Ave G. The storm had just passed but the wind was still up. The sand on the concrete was like glass. Took a bit to get into some hard pack. Hahaha all boy sometimes
