I camp at Grass Point State Park every year for two weeks. There are several non-electric sites near the water that have plenty of room and you can watch the ships go by right outside your door! We also take our boat with us--you can rent a small boat right at the campground if you're feeling adventurous.

Grass Point has a nice beach and playground for the little ones, also a brand new bath house. Don't forget the village of Clayton while you're there--nice restaurants and a great antique boat museum.

Merry Knoll

I have frequented the Thousand Islands since I was a kid and we camp at Merry Knoll Campground. It is located right on the water and has docks for fishing. It is a nice family run campground with some great views of the river. The downfall is that it is located just west of Clayton and is about a 20 minute ride to Alex Bay. If you are looking for something closer to Alex Bay I would suggest Keewaydin State Park which is probably the closest to the castle. There really are a lot of options for camping in that area though.
