Thousand Islands / St. Lawrence Seaway

Thinking of going to the Thousand Islands area on the St Lawrence seaway that forms the border between US and Canada in northern New York State.

Anyone been?

Anyone been up in Canada in that area?

Thanks.

We have been there many years ago, stayed at Coles Creek and Keewaydin in Alexandria Bay. both state parks and dry camping. Stopped at the hydroelectric dam and Eisenhower Locks and there was a animal part in Watertown, we are heading back again this year seening it has been about 20 years since the last visit. we also have been into Canada in the early 70's and stayed in a Riverside Provincial park. Nice to watch the freighters going by.

There are a couple of campsites I would recommend. There is a New York State campsite with full hookups called Wellesley Island State Park. My favorite however is KOA Association Island. This campsite is a little on the expensive side but if you can get a reservation on one of the sites actually on the Lake Ontario shoreline it is truly impressive.

You will be amazed at the changes. With the expansion of Ft Drum over the past decade, the area has really been built up. Beautiful in the summer, brutal in the winter.
