Hi Folks,
Has anyone driven through the Tonto National Forrest in AZ from Holbrook to Fountain Hills? I'm wondering how hilly and/ or curvy are the highway. Thanks.
Assuming you are coming down 87 from Payton it is very mountainous with long 6% downhill grades and several of the same uphill. There is no way to get from Holbrook to Fountain Hills that is not mountain driving. You are dropping from 7500-8000 feet to 1400 feet elevation.
And don’t try it on Sunday because all of this traffic that is beginning the last long climb to Payson on Friday is going to be going back to Fountain Hills and into Phoenix.
Kinda thought that might be the case. Too bad. It looks beautiful. It'd be a great motorcycle ride, though, huh? Thanks for the information. I really appreciate it.
