UP Michigan- Camping

Going to the UP MI next summer and like some suggestions or recommendations for campgrounds along Lake Superior east of or from Marquette eastwards. Minimum 30 amp hookup but that may change as we move forward and looking at a new TT. Found several but listed as first come first served don't want to drive 10 hours for a hope we can get a spot.

You might give them a call now. It's still summer and chances are the occupancy will be very similar next year. Couldn't hurt.

Stayed at Munising Tourist Park Campground many times, nice location. Make reservations way in advance with any campground along the Great Lakes in the Michigan UP.

Thanks for oldmanAZ going to call today see what I can learn.

Rustic Eagle Munising was on my list and appreciate the positive feedback on the campground. Give them a call today also how far in advance I can book a site. The web site for Munising states On-Line Reservations only made from Oct 1 to Nov 1 for the following year.

We like Muskallonge Lake State Park. It sits on the inland lake (Muskallonge Lake) to its south and is across the street from Lake Superior. The inland lake is good for swimming, fishing and kayaking. We are wanting to try the city owned campground in Grand Marais that we've heard good reviews on but they don't take reservations. We homeschool, so we may try it after the Labor Day weekend.

Also, if you Facebook (my wife does most of that), there is a group called Camp the Mitten that has over 3,000 members who offer reviews on both private and publicly owned campgrounds. We get a lot of info there, launching from the SW Lower Peninsula for our trips.

Another vote for Munising Tourist Park Campground, try to get a site on the west side of the campground, most are full hookups and also has the newer bath house. The east side is more for small campers and tents, and an old nasty bath house that is supposed to get replaced. The Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore is one of the most beautiful places to visit, we take our own boat and spend the day cruising along the towering rock walls that rise from Lake Superior. You can rent kayaks, pontoon boats or take a guided tour boat. Also many hiking trails to the waterfalls and overlook areas along the 25 miles of shoreline the park covers.

We spent 2 weeks up there last October and always stayed in the State Parks. Each one was super clean and reasonably priced. Only down side is you will probably have to purchase a "Recreation Passport" which is $35 for non residents.

Thanks all for your help, I have it narrowed down to 2 different parks and 2 alternates if we are unable to get a spot in primary site.

First location
Munising Tourist Park
Alternate Site
Muskallong Lake State Park
Second Location
Tahquamenom Falls State Park
Alternate Site
Straits State Park

One more questions for those in the know, I will need to purchase a park pass so get a yearly pass as we will be in the area for minimum of 5 days and good for both TV and TT?

Yes the annual pass will cover both the TV and TT. If you stay at Munising Tourist Park you wont need the pass, only at the state parks

Also, if you use the Mackinac Bridge, it runs roughly $2 per axle to cross.
