We are planning a trip to Arizona this winter and I want to go see the new dam bridge in Vegas (technically in Boulder City). I have been trying to find a nice campground to stay in for 2 or 3 nights. I haven't found one with good reviews for they seem to have security and drug/prostitution issues. I have a beautiful wife and 3 year old daughter so security will be important to us. Do any of you folks have a good recommendations??

Are you looking in Vegas or Arizona ? KOA At Sams Town is as safe as any place.

You might look at Lake Mead RV Village - the Boulder Beach location (Lake Mead RV Village - Lake Mead RV Village). It's within an hour of the strip and just a little bit north east of Boulder City. We spent a week at their Echo Bay location which is about an hour or so due east of Henderson in the Lake Mead Recreation Area in April of this year. It was a pleasant stay with decent amenities. The Boulder Beach location is bigger and pretty close to where it sounds like you want to be. Since you are looking at a winter trip best to get it worked out well in advance given the popularity of that area with the snow birds. Our trip in April was right on the tail end of the winter season and the park was fairly empty.

I second Lake Mead RV Village! We were there last month and stayed in one of the lake view sites. Beautiful view, level concrete pad, reliable 50-amp power and water. Our only issue was that it was 110 degrees when we arrived and set up camp, but that isn't the campground's issue! There was a steady breeze off the lake which made things more bearable outside.

It is convenient to both Hoover Dam and Vegas itself. One caveat however, it is located within the Lake Mead National Recreation Area so you do have to have a pass or pay a fee to enter. We have an annual pass, so we were fine. I do believe they have day and week passes available if you don't have the NPS Pass. The pass does not cover camping fees, just entry to the whole Recreation Area.

We also stayed overnight at Sam's Town, our daughter and grandsons flew into Vegas to join us and it was close to the airport. It was surprisingly nice and very quiet given its location right off the Boulder Strip.

Below is a picture of us on the site at the RV Village, and in the panorama the Village is in the center of the photo near the lake. So as you can see, not a lot right around the campground.

We loved it there and would not hesitate to stay there again!

You are correct about the fee. When we were there in April the fee was $20 and you taped the receipt in your window and it was good for 7 days. If you have the time go up and along the north side of the lake to Valley of Fire State Park. That is a $10 entrance fee but well worth it - some of the most interesting landscape you'll see. We wanted to camp there but Nevada State Parks don't accept reservations and I wanted a guaranteed spot after driving 1200 miles.
