Why always gravel?

Granted, I will admit that I am a newbie with Harvey the RV, but there is something that I have noticed and was wondering about:

Every RV park that we have stayed at with Harvey the RV have all had gravel sites for the RV to stay on. Not a single one was "level."

So why don't these RV parks have concrete level sites instead of gravel not level ones?

It doesn't take a lot of time to get level, but it sure would be nice if it was just level to begin with.

Concrete is more expensive then gravel. I can say that many of the gravel sites I have been in have been level or close to level. And of course some have been way off level.

Ever thought about the cost of concrete? Gravel is cheap and is easy to maintain (if they do it).

The sites at Grand Canyon North rim are asphault and the most un-level I've ever stayed on. A lot of times if the gravel is "thick" you can push it under the tires on one side to level instead of using boards. Doesn't answer your question about "why" but if they made them too easy to park on, it wouldn't be like camping, would it?

The campground at the Choctaw Casino in Durant, OK is the nicest you could ever hope to see. All of the roads and the pads are concrete, and the landscaping is always immaculate. It's also 50 bucks per night during the warm weather months.

I agree Concrete is much to expensive, that is why most RV parks have gravel.

like everyone has mentioned, gravel is way cheaper then concrete, it also allows for better drainage in the rain and if anything on the persons TT, Coach, etc. leaks, it wont' pond up and or stain the concrete. Some CG's have concrete pads, but you pay a premium for them

Gravel is easier to maintain.
If it gets out of level, you simply drag a blade over it.
If someone spills grease or oil on it, it doesn't pool or stain and you can always add more on top.
Concrete can crack, stain, get out of level...and then what do you do?

I prefer gravel.

Gravel is cheap, it's the same reason my trailer is stored on a gravel pad instead of concrete. I have other things I'd rather spend my money on. Now multiply that cost x how many sites.

That said, if gravel sites aren't level it's because the CG owner is either lazy, or doesn't know they are not level. At the CG we go to the most the owner has his own front loader. They re-level the sites that need it every year. They aren't perfect, seldom are with gravel. But they are pretty close.

He also added 17 "Executuve" sites this year. Concrete pads and patios. $64 for a back in site, $69 for a pull through. I get a water/Elec back in site on a gravel pad for $43. I can live without the concrete.

Around here, it's all gravel. The only asphalt ones I've seen where the ones designated "wheelchair accessible".
