Yellowstone 2018
Made reservations for a 6 days in Yellowstone, late August. 2 days at Grant and 4 at Fishing Bridge. Wanted to camp at Canyon for 2 days and finish with 2 days at Fishing Bridge, but Canyon was already filled up.
Leaving Yellowstone on to Cody and the Buffalo Bill Museum of the West, Mt. Rushmore next. Then we plan to head south to something in Utah or Colorado.
We plan to revisit the Utah/Colorado area for a few weeks in the future.
Best,
Steve

Awesome! Please update us after your visit! I was going to do a trip in '18 to Yellowstone and Mt. Rushmore (had reservations, but had to cancel all), but things changed at work to dictate otherwise!

Sounds like an awesome trip. We need to venture west and Yellowstone, Grand Teton, and Mount Rushmore are all on the list. Lots of pics would be great!

Sounds like a great trip. If time permits, be sure to also visit Crazy Horse. It is very close to Mt. Rushmore. Also, there is a great adventure in nearby Custer National Park. Driving along the Wildlife Loop we saw more bison than we say in Yellowstone. Also saw lots of deer, wild turkeys and prairie dogs. The views along the route were wonderful.

get up early
Too many mud pots
get the "gypsy guide to Yellowstone"
do Tom's trail
waterfalls are the best
climb Mount Washburn... turns out you can drive around
sunsets or sunrises over the waterfalls are spectacular....
Hit Jackson Hole ... great Italian restaurant there too!
Lake Jenny!
Go to the visitor center the day before you go look at the geysers and get the times for chimney geyser, castle geyser go get a seat early you will have to wait but it is worth it they last for over 20 minutes...
you can see ol' faithful any time... preferably before 8am... nobody there at that time!
have fun! stay away from the buffalo!!!

Much of the best stuff in Yellowstone is seen by taking day hikes, some of the best waterfalls, and some of the best geysers. Get a book on day hiking in Yellowstone, get a good pair of hiking shoes (yes, you really need good footwear on the back country trails), and plan it out.

Yellowstone
I would swing by the Grand Tetons not far from Yellowstone. You can see a lot in a day there if time is limited. As someone else mentioned Custard State Park. I wasn't real crazy about Crazy Horse. Eat a buffalo burger in Custard.

We did a couple of weeks at Yellowstone (actually stayed at Grand Teton) last summer in our pop top, which convinced us to buy our 27DSRL ;-) We were actually there for the eclipse and it was an incredible trip! Enjoy!!!!

We stayed a week at the “Headwaters” this past Sept and loved the area. Rained, sleeted and snowed (mostly snowed) 5 of the 7 Days we were there and they were closing a few roads due to the snow and things were winding down to the season closure. The park is stunning!

I live in Utah and booked a 5 night trip to Yellowstone in Aug of 18 as well. We will spend 2 nights in Rexburg ID, 5 nights in Yellowstone, and 1 in Jackson Hole on the way home. We are staying at Grant Campground in the park.
