I guess the lack of response on this is a good thing. Means it probably won't be too crowded.

I was thinking Talladega area of Alabama when I first saw the post... Now I am wondering how the ALABAMA name made it all the way to California haha

This is what I found on how they were named:

The Alabama Hills were named for CSS Alabama. When news of the Confederate warship's exploits reached prospectors in California sympathetic to the American Civil War Confederates, they named many mining claims after the ship, and the name came to be applied to the entire range.

Was thinking of going in the springtime or fall. It gets pretty hot in the Owens Valley in the summertime. I most likely wouldn't be staying for more than five days or so, so supplies wouldn't be a problem. Besides the town of Lone Pine would have some stuff if necessary. We've been past this area numerous times but I was just curious if anyone on this forum had been there.
I've done lots of research on it and it looks like a neat place.

Camped in the BLM campground just south of Alabama Hills. Nice area. Depends on how big your rig is there may be limited spaces for boon docking.
