Anyone have a Yamaha 3000is inverter/generator? Just bought one from my son in his new sales position at a Yamaha dealer.

Haven't made use of it yet but am looking forward to it.

Since you've already bought it, it seems a bit late to be asking for people's thoughts and opinions about it.

And since you son actually sells them, shouldn't he have at least some insight into their performance and usefulness?

My complete 400 watt Renogy solar system + 4 6-volt 200 AH batteries + accessories cost me $2902.00. 1/3 of that is tax deductible, but given how much I will be working on the road with my travel trailer and how often I plan to camp off the grid, I expect it will pay for itself by the end of the year.

If that solar system is not enough I will add ~$500 Windwalker 250 Wind Generator.

The generator I selected was the Champion 75531i 3100 Watt Inverter Generator for $839, which is as quiet as the Yamaha EF3000iSEB, but ~$1350 less expensive. We'll see if I made the right decision.

Last year we bought a 2800. Just a little smaller than yours, but doing the calcs I felt it was all we need.

Anyhoot, its the 4th generator I've owned in the past 20 years, and simply the best. Its so light for its capacity, and the fuel efficiency is outstanding. Starts with 1 pull. I'm so glad I bought the Yammi over a Honda.

I know its not what you asked about, but I would imagine the 3000 would be just as good.

Great generator.

It sat in the garage all winter, at temps down to -30's.

I just got it out, changed the oil, put the battery in, turned the key, and on it went. Great generator.

My one regret is I have not used it more. I plan to do more boondocking this year, and hope to run it hard.

I own 2 of the ef2000is which I use singly on trips with my work trailer and which I pair up when I'm dealing with larger loads at home and need a full 30A source for something. I like being able to pick 1 up easily and have the redundancy so if one craps out I still have 2kw of power available. I've used the Yamaha's for years and have never had an issue.

I purchased a reconditioned Champion 2000 inverter gen. thru Ebay. It's o.k. as long as I stay within a couple thousand feet of sea level. I think the company was called SuperGen Products or something like that.

I agree with this. I fired mine up for the first time this past weekend and I was impressed with how easy it started and how quiet it was. Got mine through overstock.com for less than $800 with free shipping.

I have and love solar panels...320 watts worth on my trailer. They let me do everything...well...except run my AC.

Since we will be in the desert for 3 weeks this summer, with temps over 100, and since we won't always have hookups, I ordered the Champion 3100 inverter generator from Costco when it was on sale. I only plan to run it to cool down the trailer as needed. I must say, I am quite pleased with how quiet it is. I also plan to use it for power outages/emergencies at home.

My solar will keep my batteries charged with no problem. the generator will run the AC if/when needed. I am not one to run a generator every day all day. I prefer the peace and quiet of solar, but at times, generators have their place. I also don't want to disturb my neighbors. This summer, I will listen to see if others are running generators around me. If they are, I will fire up the champion to run the AC for a while. If others are not using generators, I will probably sit in the shade and not run mine. I don't want to be the only one disturbing the peace :-)

I had some time this last weekend so we took the new Champion 3100 out to the trailer and gave it a test run with the AC. I am happy to report that the AC fired right up even with the generator in eco mode. The running voltage with the AC on was 121. Without the AC on it was 123. When starting the AC, it dropped to 109 for a second and went right back up to 121. That was on eco mode. I did not try it with eco mode off. Just a note that it was only about 75 degrees out and not much elevation. I think this generator will do well for us.

Which A/C system do you have? The 13.5 or the 15?
