Looking for a small generator?

I got a flyer from Sams Club showing a Westinghouse IGen 2100/1800 watt for $329 with free shipping through Nov. 23 or while supplies last.

Seems very inexpensive for one of those suitcase style inverter generators.

Sounds like a deal. If I didn't already have a pair of 2000 watt Hondas I'd get one.

I've had one for several years now with zero issues.

Here's a link to a thread I started on them back in 2020.

Same here, mine is still working great. Buy it before you can't at that price.

I have the igen 2500, and it performed well for me. It won't run my entire camper, but we usually aren't in it during the day. It's big enough to run the microwave, if necessary, but it does make it snort. When running the furnace at night, we didn't quite get the 10 hours/gal. advertised, but it lasted between 8.5 and 9.5 hours depending on the nighttime temps.

Should work well for you.
I bought a slightly larger Generac: https://smile.amazon.com/Generac-712...b3de13370&th=1

It's still the small, lighter platform, but the extra KW handles surges, and it accepts a 30 amp connector. It still struggles with the AC, but we live in CO, at about 8000 feet, so AC is a once a year thing.

For us, it's all about the microwave and espresso machine. Our old genny still worked and made power, but it struggled with the micro...it was tired. I sold it for about $150 to someone who knew that it was tired but needed a bargain.

For sure, the Hondas and Yamahas are the gold standard, but, in my experience, the cheapos do the job for half the price or less. I'd rather have that 500 for other things...like gas in my boat.

As for boondocking, in my opinion, you ain't boondocking if you are serenaded by a generator all night. If you ever want to talk solar, I can fill you in. I have 400 watts of Renology solar on the roof and 2 x 6-volt golf cart batteries on the tongue, and, in sunny Colorado, I don't use my genny for battery charging. It only runs about 30 minutes a day...15 minutes each morning and early evening to make lattes...because we aren't savages.

The solar does the rest, and our furnace runs a lot at night, even in the summer, because, it drops into the 40's often overnight...hell, every now and then it snows in July here. If you're into boondocking, and if you don't live in the PNW or Syracuse, NY, solar performs well.

Happy camping.

Solar works in open areas but the angle of sun matters too.. Something to consider if you camp in an open area in the North.. Ours did wonderfully the first week boondocking in Newfoundland.. really did not need the genny.. the second month not so much. We were in an open area.

In Maine pretty much forgeddabout solar though there are exceptions.

Yes, you're talking serious north and, perhaps, cloudier, too. But solar does work...you just need more of it for the same output. But I hear ya. Newfoundland, huh? You are tougher than I am.
