Newbie boondocker....

We recently purchase some land in NM which we intend to use for "boondocking" until we can afford to put a cabin up. I will need to do some prep work to the land, but in the meantime, I will be able to use it as is. Here are som pics of the land and oh ya, it has water and electric already on site. I will keep posting on here when I do upgrades to the land. Click image for larger version

Good luck on the work. Since you have water and electric I would say your are "boondocking" in comfort. What do you do with your black water?

tlhdoc, we will be using our portable dump tote, it seemed to work well this year.

jayeagle12, my very next step is to go up there and put a salt lick down and then listen to all the elk bugling. :hihi:

It seems that we all work hard to have a nice place to rest and relax.

This will work for years on part time use. Not sure how the codes are in your area.

I've been thinking about getting a piece of land in NH to bring the TT too and maybe someday build on. I wonder how the codes are in NH. Jayeagle, what are some of your favorite places to camp other than boon docking in Maine? We live in Somerville and store our TT in Tewksbury. Not far from you at all!

I have a pop-up that I take a couple of times a year.

If you have kids (or not) Chocora was a great campground.

If you want to be on a pristeen lake blackbrookcove was beautiful! A long drive but well worth it for the Lakefront sites.

Thanks, both of those seem really nice. Do you boon dock on the east shore sites at Black brook cove? We have never boon docked but that seems like a great place to do it. Want to set the TT up for it but we are in the process of an upgrade TT, so that will have to wait.

I like the set up, we do have a "cowboy septic" system installed on the property, unfortunately I don't know what the previous owners used for the holding tank...............I need to dig it up to see what's lurking under the surface.

BTW, that's quite the construction site you have there!

If you have something I would use it until you have a reason you can't. The tank I put in leeches, I put like 500 half inch holes in a plastic drum and surrounded it with rocks. I have a friend with the same setup and he is going on 12 years with no problem. As far as construction go's I AM DONE! This year. I am trying to put the pieces back together now. I still need to run my water and power lines. Maybe next year.

They changed their website I couldn't find the campground map. I am not sure if they have a site on east shore that will fit your TT. I would call for info. I just happened to keep the map I saved from the old website.Click image for larger version

Good point. With proper drainage these will work for 20 years or longer. If it aint broke don't fix it or mess with it.

Nice land - Juniper and Pinion and looks very flat. As a native NM (one of the few) I'd there are a quite a few areas this could be. Mind giving the general area?

Our friends have a piece up near Heron lake where they leave their trailer all summer. They haul water in a 100 gallon tank in the back of the truck. Put in an outhouse for #2 and let the #1 and grey drain into a hole down the hill a bit. About every 10 years they dig a new outhouse hole. They have electric. Works well for them.

Chakara, we are located approx. 10 west of Quemado on US 60 at an elevation of 7800'. I love the area; open, quiet, peacful. Nothing beats star-gazing from anywhere in New Mexico.

Great area. Quemado remains my coldest camp ever were all weekend we hit the 15F mark. Were camped in the parking lot above the ramp. Nice hike behind the lake up to the top...views to die for. Fishing was slow when we were there, but did net some goldfish when they came by
