Does anyone know what the weather is like this time of year traveling thru the mountains. How long with it take to go thru the mountains from Denver. Will have have to worry about freezing temps?

You will be in the mountains.. weather can change very quickly.. your best bet is to check weather forecasts often.. that said this time of year is often good travel weather..

We had snow last night just south of Denver, I'm sure they also had some in the mountains. Trucks are required to carry chains when driving on I 70 in the mountains not sure about RV's. You can hit snow for another month in the higher elevations. Travel over night or first thing in the morning (until it warms up) could be hazardous.

I-70 from Denver to Utah

Thanks for the info about snow - UGH.
On an average day in early May with no snow in the forecast and above freezing temps in Denver, can we easily pull a travel trailer over the mountains in less than one day? Pulling a new 3,500 GVW Jayco trailer with a Chevy 5.4 V-8 Silverado.
And do I have to worry about water pipes freezing at high altitudes?

Also looking for a nice campground with facilities just east of Denver off of I-76 to spend the night before heading to Utah.

thanks..

We have been De-Winterized for almost a month... We live in the Salt Lake Valley and have had a few nights below freezing.

We don't worry about freezing unless the nightime low is getting in the mid-20's as our Seneca has most of our plumbing in enclosed compartments that have heat. Unless you are going to be stopping for the night in the mountains (or at Denver elevation) you should not have any issues unless there is a huge cold wave coming thru the US.

Denver is expecting to get 6" of snow Friday and another 3" on Saturday.. warnings that all trucks MUST have chains on I 70 in the mountains.

Don't know when your heading to Utah..
