Where to fill up the Fresh Water Tank?

I've got a 10 gallon FWT and obviously don't want to travel long distances with the extra weight of it being full.

When people are travelling, where is a common place to stop and fill the tanks up closer to destination (i.e. Walmart, people's homes, etc)?

Where I am heading, there won't be a tap that I can drive up to and fill up.

Any suggestions on where to stop.

Will be heading to Watkins Glen NY (from Ontario)

I've got a 6 gallon portable container that I'll probably just bring with me for extra water also.

Might try a truck stop. Flying J etc.
They're usually RV friendly.

10 gal is only 70 lbs, might just fill it at home.

10 gallons is nothing.. actually the only time that will effect you is driving in town. Highway driving the extra weight is not a big factor in mileage.

I agree with having water in the tank while traveling. I usually always have some in case I want to use some water or the toliet.

You may have to do a little research. Many CG's with no facilities have water taps for that purpose. I would leave home with enough to get there.

I fill my fresh water that way it is soft water from my homes water softener. I've done both ways and not even 1 mpg different.

I always carry water. Doesn't seem to impact my mileage. As for Flying J, most I have been to do not carry potable water. Just water to flush out the sewer hoses.

Call or email where you are going. They may have some recommendations. In some states, rest areas are RV friendly and have dump stations and water fill stations. 10 gallons is fairly easy carry in a 5 gallon water can, and load into to the tank.
