Working outlets while boondocking

Hey all,

I purchased a 3000 watt inverter that converts 24v dc to 110 ac. My plan is at night when I shut the generator off to unplug the trailer line from the generator and plug into the inverter that is connected to a separate 24 v lithium battery so that my internal outlets still work. I’m only using the outlets to power the tv and maybe charge phones. I’ll be switching the fridge over to propane at this time.

The question I have is will the trailer pull juice from this battery/inverter and charge the onboard trailer batteries? If so, how do I switch that off for overnight? Is there a separate breaker I can flip off to prevent that?

Thanks!

One of the options that I decided to go with was that I rigged my inverter so that I can plug in the main camper cord into a water proof receptacle mounted on my outrigger facing backwards. I turn off my 110 volt converter breaker and my ac breaker when I plug in the cable. When you are running your inverter off the batteries, you are not doing anything as it relates to charging when your converter will run if your master electrical panel is live off of the inverter.

I agree with Jayhawk29.
So, you are trying to make a Jackery or power station, without buying one.
My question is, how do you charge the 24 volt Lithium battery? Does the inverter monitor the battery? Are you putting the battery and inverter in an enclosure or just mounting components? Make sure to install needed switches, and fuses or breakers.

Yes you will need to shut off the converter in the breaker box or it will try to charge your trailer battery’s

Ok, I reread your question. You want to run a gen during the day and plug into a “jackery” like system at night. You want to know about the system draining to charge your house batteries. The answer is that the house batteries will draw no current by being charged if it’s at full charge when you turn off the generator. Since you are using an inverter off the 24 volts, when the inverter shuts down from low 24v then the house battery will start being used for its function.

If your trailer battery is lithium it will be fully charged but if it’s a lead acid battery it will trickle charge it all night if you don’t shut the converter off.
