Wanted: Tongue Scale

Looking to pickup a tongue scale. Either a 1000# or 2000# scale would be great.

Make your own, only use a 4x4 or 4x6 and go out 4 ft.

Grumpy, the diagram shows a 2x4 but you state a 4x4. Why the difference??? Just curious on the reasoning.

For a TT a 2x4 won't hold the weight, also that's why you go 4' instead 2-3

If your only looking to weigh the tongue now and then check your area for a weigh station or a landscape supply, we have a local one that I can drop the tongue on the scale for $5.00 and get a printed readout.

You can't check the tongue weight by dropping your jack on a scale; you have to have a board running between the scale and the actual part of the coupler where the ball goes. As you get further back from the ball, the weight will rise.

Another important point, especially with shorter single axle trailers, is to make sure the tongue is at the same height it is at when it's hooked to the TV. The lower the tongue drops, the more tongue weight is generated.
