15k ac & 50amp worth it?

Some of you have likely seen my thread about my "new, damaged" trailer I'm in line to buy.

Ignoring it's been damaged.... I found another near identical to it, except it has additional options of 15k btu ac & 50amp service. Vs 13.5k btu & 30amp

They pretty much offered a price match except that since it has the two additional options, it'd be an additional $600ish.

So we're talking $23,180, vs $23,800. Out the door on both. It's a Jayflight Slx 287BHSW

Is a 15k and 50 amp service worth the extra $620?

Any drawbacks to having either? I'm having a hard time tracking down the amp usage of the 15k vs 13.5k units used on these. That's what I'd see as the biggest issue maybe, using possibly much more amperage. And available 50 amp service might be nice. Not sure I'd really need it though.

I figure 1/2 of my camping will be dry, so will likely be using my 3500 Powerhorse (same as Predator) Inverter Generator a lot. So the extra amps of the A/C unit might concern me if it's a lot more.

Ignoring that the first trailer is being fixed before I buy it... assuming they're both the same with different options.... are the two extra options worth having?

I'm in the northwest... so our camping season could range from 65-90 degrees, but not likely more than that too often.

It's also about an hour closer to home. But still 2.5 away.

The extra $600 is a bargain for an upgrade to 50a and the unit. However if you don't want or need it the extra expense will be a waste. Your decision.

The unit by itself wold cost you over $600.

A 15k A/C is only 10% more cooling than a 13.5, but it could help out a tiny bit on a hot day. But, for just $600 it would be worth it to me.

I usually go with "It's better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it".

Without a doubt paying the extra $620 is worth it for the 15k AC and 50 amp hookup.

If you want to consider that the extra $620 adds those options plus gets you a non-damaged new unit and it’s a no brainer....

Worth it. Using the WH on elect with AC running, a 30a will often trip a breaker when the microwave is started.

Sounds like a pretty good deal for that upgrade. Worth it in my opinion.

13500 BTU Roof top AC uses about 1,600 watts. 15000 BTU roof top AC uses about 1700 Watts. We have 15 K unit and no issues running it on 30 amp. Not sure what you gain with the 50 amp unless you have 2 AC.

Good Luck]]Good chart of power usage

Go for it. Better to have too much AC capacity than not enough.

I would tend to think so.

The 287BHSW has bunks tucked into the rear corner and with three windows in the slide IMO the little extra cooling capacity would be worth it......., and then there's the kids having access to "two" entry doors

Also, slide areas when exposed to the hot afternoon sun take a little more effort to maintain cooling temps

Plus, an added bonus is that 50amp shore power outlets tend to be less problematic

I guess if you want the second A/C and Washer and Dryer setup the 50AMP Service would be the way to go.. The 50AMP service gives you two 50AMP 120VAC Zones and will also give you a 220VAC Zone for the Washer and Dryer...

I never got into the travel mode of the bigger RV's.... 90% of our camping is local off-grid somewhere... The 30A serves us just fine haha... I have setup a tent a couple of times along with my POPUP trailer at a Camp Ground 30A Pedestal and brought along a second A/C window unit for the tent and plugged it into the 20AMP Service on the camp ground pedestal... Kids always like to stay in a tent haha...

With all you have been thru the last three to four weeks, I would run, not walk, and get the larger rig. There are a lot of pluses here for the larger ac and 50 amp service. Ours came with 50 amp and a fireplace. We have never regretted it. Just pull the trigger and do it. The fact that the larger unit is undamaged, and closer to home should help in your decision.

The only downside to 50 amp is the heavy cord. I had 50 amp and two airs and used a 30 amp cord with adaptor 90% of the time. I don’t know why the trailer even has 50 amp if it only has one air. 30 amp is plenty for a 15,000 AC.

It would be worth the $600 to me not to have a damaged trailer & the extra cooling capacity is a bonus - we use 16 amps ( I don’t know the starting amps ) while running our 15000 btu A/C Les

What is 10% when it comes to degrees? I mean, really the difference of even just 2 degrees actually feels pretty substantial sometimes.

If it's only 100watts more... that's not even a amp. That's nothing.

Pretty unanimous opinions about paying the extra for the two options. Although a couple cheated bringing up the damage part. Lol.

I heard that !!!!

I saw one in RV that pulled into WALMART here the other day...

I trail camped many times up in the high country along the Blue Ridge and this is all I had along me hehe...

google image...

Moma said I should upgrade so I got a bigger tent... Then in 2008 I finally got something with wheels under it hehe....

Being an avid tent camper always a tent camper I guess...

This is what I really want I think and pull it with my Wrangler JEEP...

Google image

My real joy is waking up next to a creek off trail somewhere drinking fresh ground and brewed bean coffee and watching the fish jump...
