Please share which parks and why. Previous experience with them, or first time visiting?

Pcschwenke - We are planning a trip to Michigan later this year. Can you recommend great a campground with a family atmosphere - preferably near a lake.

We will be in Indiana for a few days prior, so probably somewhere in the lower peninsula, or maybe just over the bridge if it comes highly recommended.

If you can get into Ludington state park it has a river that runs through the campground into lake Michigan, it usually books up fast but one of the best campgrounds in the area. They have tons of stuff to do there as well. Up north more in Lake Leelanau Rv park is really nice as well I have a trip reserved there in July for a week. They are on a lake and have boat rentals available through the CG.

LkptRvPilot, There's a lot of great places with lakes nearby. We are planning to Camp at Van Riper (on Lake Michigamme), Mill Creek in Mackinaw City, Camp Petasego, and Tehquamenon Falls. All of them are very close, if not on the water. Another great campground is Hartwick Pines. The sites are awesome and most are pull thru with full hookup. Many lakes nearby, but not within the campground area. Very nice hiking though!

I've, also, been booking sites . . . in my case, it's for campground host positions in Michigan. Had the opportunity to host last August & September. So far, I've accepted hosting positions at North Higgins Lake St. Pk. (West side for May, East side for June), and Clear Lake State Park for September. Still waiting to hear back from parks for April, July, and August.

LkptRvPilot: If you're looking to camp in Michigan, but stay a little closer to Indiana, you might want to check out Ft. Custer State Park near Kalamazoo, Ionia State Rec. Area near Grand Rapids, or Sleepy Hollow State Park north of Lansing.

Happy Camping to all!

Like Brownie, we have applications sent in for campground hosting this summer. We are waiting to hear back on sites in northern (Grand Canyon) and northeastern (Mogollon Rim) areas in AZ.

We have 9 days in Southern Nevada in April and another 9 days in Southern Utah in September. Starting to work on the in-between trips. Would like to hit the Washington coast again (Cape Disappointment State park) as well as central Oregon and Northern California. It is (still) pouring buckets so we are more than ready to get going.

We will have to meet up at Higgins Lake. I have a transit vehicle maintenance conference at the RAM center June 20 to the 23rd. Likely we will arrive the Saturday or Sunday prior.

As far as im concerned, every Michigan state park is family friendly. The only problem is there are only a few with fhu sites. In south west Michigan, Id recommend Holland state park. They have two campgrounds, one of which is on the beach of lake Michigan, the other is just up the road from the big lake and has grassy sites. The sites at the beach campground are basically an over sized paved parking spot, like in a parking lot, but the beach appeals to many. Grand haven state park is very similar. Go to Michigan.gov/dnr and find the campground and harbor reservations link. You can enter dates (only 6 months out) and see pictures of each site. Again, these are tuff sights to get into, but if you plan ahead, you can get them.
Ludington as mentioned above is my #1 favorite state park in the state. Same thing, make your reservations as early as you can to get in. Good luck!

We're planning a 10-day trip to mid-coast Maine for early June, already made campground reservations (with lots of help and suggestions from the great people here on JOF). It'll be our first *major* trip with the new Jay Feather 23RLSW, although we will do a couple of 2-4 day stays at local campgrounds beginning in late April or early May. Those short trips will let us test all the systems and figure out how we'll load the TT for the longer trip.

Since DW can't deal with the entire trip in one day, we'll overnight at Hinsdale Campground outside Brattleboro VT, and then move on to Shore Hills near Boothbay Harbor ME for the bulk of the trip. Not quite sure yet what we'll do on the way home.

We're also looking at a trip to the Ashville NC area for late Sept.

Can't wait for spring to get here!

Roger
