A/C Upgrade Needed For Flight 32BHDS?

We are considering upgrading to a Flight 32BHDS, and wonder if the 15k a/c upgrade is needed here in Mi? Eventually we may head out of state with the trailer, but up to now have only stayed in state with it. Our current trailer is the first w/ air, think it is the standard 13.5k unit.

A couple of the 32BHDS we have found (different dealers), one has the 13.5k, the other had the 15k. Neither has the upgraded insulation option. Up to now both dealers seem pretty good, but obviously that could be because we are looking to purchase a new trailer and not needing some after the sale help.

I would do it with a trailer that large, especially without the thermal package. Are you planning on boondocking and running the AC off a generator? If so, that should be a consideration for the upgrade as well... You'll need a larger genny which will cost you more as well.

I have a 2014 32bhds. We took it to the beach last summer and the AC ran almost nonstop all week it is the 15k. But it did keep it nice and cool inside.

I recommend the 15k,my 26bh has the 15k and it keeps the trailer nice and cool even in 100+ degree weather.My 2 Honda eu2000's run it just fine.

We have had the 32BHDS out a couple times, but being in New England we've only had mild humidity to deal with... certainly nothing like the South East, and certainly nothing like the super dry heat of the South West.

But I'd venture a guess that Michigan would have similar weather as New Hampshire.

We have used the 13.5k each time and have had to turn it off over night because it got too cold for the wifey. The dog, however, would prefer if I could get it down to 50!

I've never seen a 15k run, but remember - the 32BHDS has ducted air conditioning, so the vent over the front bed, and the vent in the bunkroom really bring in some serious cold air. Plus, the bathroom *i think* has an air duct too. When we were in the living room/kitchen we needed to close some of the Air register vents during the DAY because so much cold air.

Do not worry about the air on a 32BHDS, certainly if you're hauling it, because most sites should have some trees over them. (I personally detest "pull throughs," and would rather blind-side back it into a wooded site any day.)

If I had the option of 13.5 vs 15, I would have still taken the 13.5

Having had a 32bhds in some hot weather, I was glad to have the 15k unit. You can always run the bigger AC unit on low or intermittently, but the smaller unit will only do so much. I would get the bigger AC unit if it was mine

TY to all for the feedback and suggestions! We usually have at least electric and water when we camp. So not to often will we be boondocking. But if we did, we are set on the generator. We have a Troy Bilt 7000XP, though it would be a monster to take... But the little we may need a generator camping it wouldn't make sense to buy another smaller one (or a "suitcase" pair).

Here in Mi the humidity can get pretty nasty, at least if feels like it! Lol I know not as bad as the south, but air is a major reason we stepped into our current trailer 2 yrs ago. The heat doesn't bother me as much, but my wife would set ice cube trays out on the counter to make ice if she could get it that cold in the trailer (or the house)!!!

If we do for for the new trailer, I think it will probably come down to which dealer we feel is giving us the best "value" for the money. The one with the 13.5k a/c trailer is closer, within 1/2hr, the one with the 15K is about 2hrs away. Not sure what the one that is about 1hr away has.

My 32BHDS has both. I believe the main unit is 15 and the unit for the bedroom is 13.5.

We just got back from a week long trip to Ft. Mcallister (Ga). My thoughts;
The site only had 30 amp hookups so running both AC units was a no go. The main unit kept it nice and cool, but ran non stop. On days like today (98+ degrees and high humidity) I can't imagine that the 13.5 unit will do it's job without struggling.

I got the 2 AC unit version with the thermal package, and I don't regret it. It's much hotter here than in MI though.

If you get the dual AC version, it's a 50 amp service which complicates things slightly, but for me, it was worth it.

My niece who lives in MN has the 32BHDS with only a 13.5. She wants to upgrade to a 15K, the smaller unit just does not keep up with the humidity. For the little difference in price the upgrade is worth it. We have 2 units in our Eagle and I am sure glad we went that route with all our traveling we do.

Our 32BHDS has the 15K unit and does OK. We spent two weeks at Myrtle Beach with several days at around 100 degrees. It didn't not cut off much but we would shut vents off from time to time. I think the smaller unit would struggle in certain climates.

Last fall we purchased our 2015 Eagle 28BHBE with the 15k upgrade. In the middle of June we took a two week trip to Nashville. Temps were in the high 90's everyday. The 15k unit struggled in the day to keep the trailer at 80 degrees. I'm sorry I didn't go for 2 A/C units and 50 amps.

We have the Glacial package and 15k a/c in our WH. It does fine in our size trailer even in 90 degree + heat.

If I were you, I would look for a 50 amp with 2 a/c s, just in case you wanted to venture south one day.

If you just go with one a/c and 30 amp, the 15k will be well worth the extra $$$

I would go for the thermal package over the larger ac unit. I have a 2015 32 bhds, and granted here in Alberta I don't the high temps of u guys, but it's amazing the difference that thermal package makes in holding both the heat and cool in comparison to my last trailer with the normal insulation.

After a long process we have decided to hold off at the moment.

Jon, funny you mention the thermal package. Last night I mentioned to my wife since we are waiting, if we end up ordering when we do buy maybe that is something we should consider. The one (actually both 32's we found) had the 32" tv. and the grill, neither of which we would choose if ordering. But add the thermal package instead. Would come down to what is available, and what the price would be ordering compared to buying off the lot.

Besides the added insulation, is the enclosed underbody an added benefit to "protect" the underside of the trailer compared to a model without the enclosed underside?

Better to have it and not need it. It's not that much more for the 15k unit.

We were concerned about clearance on the front unit and were mulling getting a 13.5 for that reason. The higher price for the 13.5 was the deciding factor. We have been very happy with the 2-15k units.

The 13.5 is a few inches less in height.

I knew they are together, I was just wondering besides the added insulation, is having an enclosed underbelly a benefit from a "protection to road debris & water" standpoint or not? Kind of an added bonus if so.

For $150 I do believe we will go for it unless a trailer bought off the lot is to good to pass up price wise compared to ordering. Then again, we plan on keeping this trailer for some time (8-10yrs if all goes well) so even if an order is a little more, it would be well worth it in the long run get exactly what we want. We don't watch tv now (kids do a little at night or on real crappy days) but I have considered it during our Halloween Trip to watch some Mi Football! But a 32" is a lot cheaper at a BB, Target, Meijer, etc than Jayco. Even more so come Christmas time!

The convenience of seeing underneath without having to remove the cover is nice.

I had one without and 2 with the enclosed underbelly.

In all those rigs, I prefer having it. It keeps mud and trash from getting under there. I have had to pull parts of mine down for slide and valve maintenance and to replace the spare tire crank, but it is not a problem once its done and you know how to remove and reinstall it.

TY fr the feedback! Makes sense the enclosed underbelly would help keep "garbage" from getting into the underbelly of the trailer.

Here is a crazy question: if we end up buying a trailer without the thermal package is it possible to still enclose the underbelly, and how much work would it be?
