A/C whistling

Does anyone know how to make the AC stop whistling? I'm going to try to upload a video when I get a chance.

Also in case this AC is about to go is their an AC that everyone reccomends? I have 23foot jayflight tt.

My best guess: It's possible the whistling is from a clogged filter.

I change the filter often, at least once a month.. but next time it whistles I'll pull it out n see if it stops. It doesn't whistle all the time but gettin more frequent. Here's the video so u can hear it.

Consider opening the dump vents slightly. My front dump vent whistles if its completely closed. I nudge it just a teeny bit to reduce the pressure and the whistling immediately stops.

My first impression listening to it is it's more a metallic sound. I wonder if you have a motor bearing that's dry, or going bad. You could take off the shroud on the roof unit, and see if it's louder up there. Put a couple drops of 3 in 1 oil on the shaft by the bearings, let it seep into the bearing surfaces and see if it goes away.

This Actually started like 6 months ago. I went up and I could not get one of the screws off the shroud so I couldn't remove it. So I sprayed WD-40 using two straws so I could reach through the crack of the shroud and then let the AC run a couple times and then I followed it up with white lithium grease. I only saw two spinning areas that I applied it too. I thought I'd help as it went away for a while. I went back up and did the same thing but it didn't seem to help this time. I don't know if there's somewhere to apply from the inside Maybe?

Since the noise went away after you sprayed it, there's a good chance it's the motor or bearings you're hearing. The evaporator side bearing area of the motor won't be accessible from the inside...I don't think. It's been a while since I've dropped our inside panel. If you can't see the forward shaft that has the squirrel cage blower wheel, then the metal cover over the evaporator coil, under the shroud, has to be removed to gain access to that end of it. It's a bummer that one shroud screw won't come out.

Yea bummer. Is the motor or bearing replaceable or do you just buy a new unit. It only 6 or 7 years old. How long do these rv acs usually last? Coleman Mach 15 I believe. Still works perfevt just the screeching is gettin annoying..

My AC’s are Coleman and the motors are replaceable. One of mine started making a droning noise, pulling the cover I discovered some play in the shaft. Sourced a new one on amazon.

We had the same sort of noise in our front cab air conditioner blower motor. It turned out to be a dry bearing in the motor. It will become an almost unbearable squeal at times. They replaced the motor and it is quiet once more!

Guessing they are supposedly "lifetime lubricated" bushing style bearings. WD40 is too light to last long but will penetrate well. I'd try a few drops of motor oil applied with a toothpick or similar, but don't overdo it.
