My kingdom for a handful of these before they decided they were killing the planet. I have one, it will dump 5 gallons in around a minute with the huge vent spout they came with. No leaks, spills, or hassle with 2' of flexible fill nozzle.

"Crown Automotive 11010R Red Jerry Gas Can" from Amazon sells for $50 or so. I've carried one on my Ford Bronco for over a year and it worked so good that I just purchased a second one for the generator/campsite. It has a flexible plastic hose that fits into the truck filler hole without a problem and the 5 gallons can be emptied in a couple of minutes without spillage.

I bought an old marine corps Gerry can.the only problem with the metal is that they dent and rust on the bottom from sitting on the ground or in storage.just give it a good coat paint

I have used replacement gas can spouts from EZ-POUR Universal Fuel & Water Jug Spout and they work great. Yes, they state they are to replace spouts that are missing or just worn out, but they do fit a lot of gas and work great.

They don't leak and they don't suck either.

The problem with using replacement caps is that the new cans do not have vents and that makes it difficult to use and forever to dump 5 gallons. Best result I've seen is to drill a hole in the top opposite the spicket and then use a wire to fish a standard tire valve thru the cap opening and stick it up thru the undersized hole you drilled. Grab the valve that is sticking thru the hole and pull it into place just like in a tire rim. Remove the core and screw on the valve cap. Remove the valve cap when you are pouring the gas and you're back in
Replacement vents are available at EZ-POUR Universal Fuel & Water Jug Spout also.

EPA law was from 2007. Said all fuel containers had to be compliant by January 1, 2009. Obama took office January 20, 2009, 20 days after the compliance date. But, you know, alternate facts are good too now.

I saw the SureCans at Lowe's and thought about them a lot. But that price!! I was afraid of them leaking at the spout "gasket" (for want of a better word) but now that I've seen your post I'm going to just go for it. It's only money, right? My biggest problem with the spring-loaded spouts comes when I fill my tractor - it fills at the hood and I have to climb up and rest one foot on a tire and one on the floorboard, which is fine, but then balancing there while 5 gallons of diesel slowly glugs into the tank is a shakes-inducing pain in the old cheeks. So, thanks!

X2 Great gas can, a little more expensive, but well worth it.

X3, I have 2 2 1/2 gallon cans for the generator and really like them. Difficult at first to get the cap open, but once you figure it out I do like these.

Guys
Even with the flex spout I still could not fill my built in generator gas tank. Just Google battery operated gas transfer pump and about 20 will come up. They are cheap and work better than I thought. Solved my problem and no more holding several 5 gl cans to fill 15 gl tank. Someone posted this before and best $16 spent at amazon

I have one of these that I use for my Honda EU2000i and it seems to work OK. I've also been looking at the RotopaX that the offroad guys use and give good reviews plus they look

I use 5 gallon fuel jugs similar to those in the link below. I carry five of them at a time in the basement of my fifth wheel, and just use these jugs and a funnel to fill my generator.

It appears that they may now market these jugs as "utility jugs" instead of fuel jugs, but they've always been intended for fuel. I suppose that's a legal thing.

Some of the jugs I'm using are 15-20 years old, and they're still holding up just fine.

I found the EZ Pour type spouts and vents at my local Tractor Supply. The package came with a larger diameter spout, spout extension, and vent to install in the can.
My biggest peeve with many of these cans is the short spout that you can't get into the filler spout of a vehicle.

Have to disagree. What was ask is not so simple of a question or at least not an easy one to answer. Putting the ?? into context is important to the answers. The new EPA/California compliant cans are the all to typical result of Pin head people who lack the ability to understand an issue and properly define a contribution to a problem and the end result is that they create a much worse problem. I suspect many people living in large urban areas on the east or west coast have never had the need to fuel a lawn mower or weedeater. These are the same people who want to restrict farms that raise cows because they emit methane gas. Nothing political about the above statement.

So the answer to the questions lies in ideas or techniques to over rule or eliminate the mess that has been created by the new ventless cans. I feel the OPs pain and have personally spilled gallons of gas over the first couple years of dealing with the new cans. One could complain that we are all law breakers by defying the EPA or the brainyacks in California, but so be it. I'd rather put the gas in my boat than get a hernia trying to figure out the new gas cans.

Throw out the new spout and replace it with one from Tractor supply or an old can that you are replacing.

Just ordered this one, steel, and only $29 (shipped). If it doesn't work as it should, I'm not out of much money.

I will take a trip to Canada for gas cans next year but not from Fl. My summer camp is in Keene NY only about an hr from Canada but not going there this year.

Hope the EPA police do not stop me at the border for bringing highly illegal non compliant gas cans to USA. Probably would get more jail time than smuggling drugs
