About your metal "trailer port" shade cover

How much width for a standard 8' wide travel trailer.
Need to walk around for sure. 12' should do it?

Height needs to be 12' for the AC to clear.
Side panels for lower sun protection?
Open rear and front.
No Taj Mahal effects necessary.
Power outlet yeah sure.
Will need concrete piers for anchoring.

No building permits for rural areas?
Inspections?

No snow area.....but summertime monsoon squalls in the desert SW.

Experiences......ideas......just blurt it out.....

I got ideas from here..... https://www.absoluterv.com/rv-covers...hade-shelters/

I have no experience to offer...but just an idea...you might want to go higher than 12' so you can get up on the roof and do work/maintenance. I'm sure someone more knowledgeable than I will chime in.

18’ wide. You will regret 12’ if you go that route. At least 3 panels on each side for morning and evening sun. Fully enclosed back end for the wind stability. Vertical roof panels. Concrete is up to you but not necessary. If you put it on dirt I would get at least 6 mobile home anchors.

Holy moly......as configured.......$6000 clams and pick it up.

18W 13.5H 35L enclosed rear 2 side panels.

And not one bolt or nut bought.......

I will have to rethink all this.

If you go 12' at the middle, your RV will be tight at the side walls, and antennas, etc.

How much would I need on the sides?
If center peak height is 12'......what would it be on 4' of either side?
At first glance......seems like 6" side clearance would be ok?

AC/TV antenna is in the center and right now I HAVE to have 11'6" to clear that.
Yes the antenna does hit.....it's on a spring base and bends ok. No damage yet.

If I needed to get on the roof.....I would just pull it out.

Much better pricing........AND delivery.......AND install.

Great find......thank you

On edit......these shelters are built in Sacto, CA.
Who would they get for the install?
My property is in Mohave County AZ.....a long way from Sacto.

6” side clearance will not be ok if you want to be able to open the door to get into the trailer.

If you do 18’ wide with 12’ side walls the center peak will be 14’ high which would allow you to get on the roof if you need to while it is in storage.

They wait until they have several buildings ordered in your region and then send a crew to do several in an area.

My rv port is 14' wide. I wouldn't want it any less than that. I can still deploy my slides and open my door completely. I probably have a foot and half to spare and can walk around the rv easily enough. The crossbeams under the roof are at 14' which gives me plenty of room for the annual roof cleaning and any repairs necessary.

Another thing to keep in mind is I noticed that 13’ wide is the same price as 18’ wide. They use the same size panels they just overlap them if you want smaller so you might as well go 18 .

This is where I got mine, best price in my area. Included delivery and install. I got an 18' wide, 31' long with 10' side legs. They have a calculator on the page somewhere that tells you how much higher the center brace is than the eave of the roof. I think it was something like 2'9" higher, so my center roof clearance was 12'9", more than enough to clear my AC unit.

The 18' wide allows me to open my slides and my windows with no fear of rain intrusion (unlikely in Vegas anyway!). I think I paid $2400 installed with extra bracing for our snow load and hurricane ties for our wind load. I didn't close in the back or sides. We have a wood pile on one side to block the sun and a fence on the other.

We planned to stay in our house for 12 years after we installed this, so its about $200 a year for covered storage on our property. Sounds like a bargain to me!

I had a steel RV shed put up at a previous home. 14' high at peak, 12' wide, 30' long. I had the long sides enclosed top to bottom. Later enclosed one end to keep leaves from blowing in.

Issues: 12' is just too narrow. You lose about 3" on each side. 14' minimum if you want to be able to work on it inside the shed.

Birds - they loved to build nests inside along the sides and top. And you know what dropped all over my motorhome.... never did solve that problem. If I ever had another one, I would have doors to close it up all the way.

Not metal, but....

I build ours with 16' clear side to side and approximately 13' clear at the king post in the center. I wouldn't go any narrower personally.

Ours is only 25' long.

Built it myself for less than a prefabricated metal one, I have around $2,400 in materials into ours, with electrical and lighting for structure only (not including the previous 50 amp service that I had already ran down to the parking area) it came in around $2,800.

Pressure treated wood is termite resistant, We have a lot more to worry about than a shelter, like the house, deck, shop, etc. The RV port gets treated like the rest of it so I have zero concerns for where we live.
