AC in high heat areas

We have only had our camper for about 2 years and all of our camping has been in spring, fall, and Florida and Texas in the winter - so pretty moderate weather. We are considering a trip to some high heat areas in late summer where temps may be 100 to 110. I have a 2015 Eagle 318RETS with a single ac unit and wonder if it will keep the camper cool (say around 75) in the heat of the day. Has anyone had experiences they can share?

Doubtful it’ll keep up. You’ll need to think about covering all your windows with your shades. Maybe even with some reflectix.

We just got back from a trip to the beach in south Texas. Temps were in the 90s with 75% humidity making the heat index over 100. Our 2 AC units (both 15k) could keep it below 80 but not much more than that.

If in the shade all day and the ac is running full throttle from sunrise you might be able to keep it at 85 until about noon. Otherwise you are not going to have much comfort inside the RV. It takes two air conditioners to get near 75 during the day if that. My base of experience on this is 12 years when I lived in Phoenix. I don't camp in the dead heat of the summer in places like you are headed. Good luck on this though.

Depends as well on unit length. 26 footer vs 29...

Depends on orientation.
If most windows are west, no.
You'll be hot.
If you can get windows in shade, maybe.

The simple answer is No, it won't. Even with dual A/C you'd be pressed to get 75 on a 100+ day. 110...forget about it. Do a search and read all the A/C threads here.

Thanks for the replies. I think a change in plans is called for.

Seems to me I read that on average, a single ac in a medium length rv will only reduce your temp by about 15 degrees, so 85 will get you 70 and 100 will get you 85.
I also found that if your rv has a winter package with extra insulation, it will stay much cooler than without a winter package.

NOOOOO ! We live here in Texas and I would say any 30 ft + camper needs 2 ac's. If our bedroom unit goes out I'm upsizing it to a 15K btu also.

Just last week, we were in Kansas in full sun and upper 90's temp. Our 28BHBE had a 15K main AC and a 13.5K in the bedroom. I also put radiant barrier in all windows and the skylight. We could keep it in the mid 70's. I just crank down the bedroom A/C and use a fan to blow it to the main area. The bedroom itself gets in the low 60's.

I also did the reflectix on the A/C units and also used spray foam in all the ducts to plug the gap in the ceiling.
