Accurate tire pressure gauge
My TPMS is a little finicky so I am looking for a pressure gauge that is certified accurate, easy to read, and works on dual wheel applications too. I will appreciate your experience and recommendations.
Thanks
Bill

I had heard good things about JACO gauges— they are pricier than your typical SLIME or other inexpensive ones that you can pick up anywhere. I decided to splurge and buy a 100 psi gauge for checking tires and their chuck/gauge combo for my compressor. They are well built, but the 100 psi gauge was off by at least 2 psi. They replaced it and same problem. I finally asked for a refund and got it after some hassle. Chuck combo works well though. Maybe this was just a fluke. YMMV.

I have three and theirs 5lbs different between them. I use the one in the middle and it matches my TPMS . Not sure which ones correct.

I'm pretty anal about my things but I don't think 2 psi on tire air pressure would bother me that much. Just saying.

Just installed a tireminder TPMS on trailer today. Set tire pressure at 80psi
TPMS was 77-78 psi. Spec on TPMS is within 2.7%. So I blew all 4 tires up to 82 psi as read on my hand gauge. Tpms reads 80psi. Leaving it there for now. Figuring that is close enough.

Yeah, I wouldn’t care for an $8 gauge, but for shelling out close to $30 it bugged me. But that’s just me

I purchased a JACO gauge 2 years ago and it is a piece of junk and very inaccurate

Tire minder. Accurate to within 1 pound but you will pay for the quality.

I've got a pencil style gauge I got from NAPA. The head is at a 45* angle and has dual ports. One end you push in on the valve stem and the other end you pull back on for checking duallys. It goes up to 120psi I believe. Good solid metal and is fairly accurate. I've tested it against my digital inflator that matches the TPMS on the wifes G6 and is within 1-2psi. You have to remember if the gauge reads X psi when connected its gonna lose a good 1psi when you disconnect it. Then re connecting the gauge, either digital one or an analog dial or stem style you're gonna lose another 1 psi even if you make a fast connection to get a read. My digital inflator shows about 1.6psi more when its inflating than when it's not. 1 or 2 psi difference, I wouldnt be too worried either. If your gauge shows 78psi and you want 80, connect an inflator, push it to 80, cap it and send it. Close enough.

I ordered a Jaco off Amazon and found it was 5-6lbs off. Contacted Jaco and they sent me another at no charge but it was considerably off as well as measured against my truck TPMS and 1 other gauge. Great customer service from Jaco though. The same question was posed on the truck forums and a lot of the people recommended this gauge so I ordered it and it's spot on with my truck TPMS.

As an ex-mechanic, ALL gauges are off a tad one way or another unless willing to pay big dollars and even then possibly off a hair. Not an issue untill it goes bad and is way off.
I used to keep 3 handy and checked them against each other once a month. Averaged the results.
BTW, how do you know the gauges were off and not what you checked them against?

If you want to be accurate need to find what the NASCAR teams use. Always talk about that 1/4 PSI that they add or take-out of the tires to make handling better. Them boys are pretty sensitive on the steering wheel to feel a difference a 1/4 pound would make. That would be one accurate gauge.

Search online for a Longacre pressure gauge. I’ve used them for years on my race car, very accurate and reliable.

From a calibration standpoint, 1 psi off on a 100 psi gauge is only 1%. Not bad when most calibration labs will only certify stuff to around 5%. In most applications, that is going to be close enough.
