Adding slidetoppers

I have just received Dometic slide toppers for our 18 293RKDS Eagle fifth wheel. For those of you that have them, are the toppers mounted on your slide flanged of the slide? My largest topper is 150”. Jayco response was not to mount on the flange but wondering what folks are actually doing.

The slide topper that I installed mounted to the face of the slide, in the corners of the flanges. It was a Solera and the instructions indicated where to mount it.

Triplebvalp, so you are mounted on the flange rather than the body of the slide. May I ask your model year and type of camper as well as your slide size? Thank you

No ... it was mounted to the face/body of the slide. I see where you might have thought to the flange ... the brackets were on the face/body of the slide butted against the inside corners of the flange(s).

That's how they come from the factory as well.

I’m guessing my 150” topper weighs 50-60 lbs. Just a guess.

We got our new Jayco 5'r with Dometic slide toppers from the factory and I recently noticed they're almost level with the slide vs. angled like an awning. I'm wondering if it's just enough to repel water or the reduced height to prevent debris from entering from the sides? It looks nice enough but I've seen other rigs with a more pronounced angle on their slide toppers, so I'm a little curious now.

Packer backer, from what I have read that seems to be a pretty standard installation. Do you have a factory drip edge, and if so is your awning rail mounted below it?

Mine were pretty level and never had any issues. It only takes an 1/8" drop per ft for water to run off.

@ Doubleheader - Based on the picture I took, the top/ridge line has "gutters" with drip spouts on either end. Underneath that is the main awning and the slide outs with covers are also below the drip edge. I was just wondering how it'd hold up if it was snowing outside. That probably seems silly and not very likely but this is an "all season" rig, so my wife might get the notion to go camping in December or something so I wonder sometimes. LOL

It will likely fill up with snow and the spring in the outside roller will just let out some slack till it lays on the slide top.

Ours have a fall but the tension is not that great in the middle and they hold water in a heavy rain until it overflows. I think it would work the same way with snow but may be a problem if you have to leave with a snow load.

I do know that you don't want to attempt to bring the slide in with a snow load.

Thanks Packerbacker. I’m pretty sure I my best bet is to install my awning rail below the drip edge like yours. Thank you for your help.

X-2

That's why I carried one of these and a telescoping ladder. Not just for the topper, but also the roof. Didn't want to drive off with the extra weight if it was a heavy snow.

Does Jayco offer slide toppers as a factory option?
FW or TT?

If they don't offer it, and If I put them on or if I have dealer put them on does that void a warranty on a new unit since it wasn't factory installed ?

Depends on the model and no if they are properly installed

If you have slide problems, you may have warranty problems, that is not how they are to be installed. They are supposed to be below the flange.
