Advice requested on removal of TV antenna
Hello,
I will never use the TV antenna that came with my new X17Z, and so I have decided to remove it. Has anyone done this? All advice greatly appreciated!

X2...was on the roof yesterday and also thought I should remove the antenna. I can remove it, and maybe cut the cable. But I would rather not have to cut it, in case I sell and re install the antenna.

I agree, whatever I do, I will need to be able to re-install the antenna IF I ever sell my X17Z.

Why bother to remove it and take a chance on a potential leak?

Personally I would leave it.
May open yourself up for more chances of a leak as stated.
I don't think the weight and drag is significant.

In general I agree, but I'm still going to see if it's possible. I may only be able to remove part of it. I'll let you know what I find.

what is it, 4 pounds? and the drag isnt doing anything different when you are towing a giant kleenex box.

Seriously, why would this thought enter someone's mind? No offense intended, but have been around RV's for 40 years and never heard anybody wanting to do this. I know a lot of the ant never get used, but remove it??? How do you seal the hole? How do you reinstall it years down the road when you want to sell it? Drag?? They lay flat to the roof and like someone said, these things are not exactly stealth fighters.
Recommendation, Don't do it.

Offence taken X2. 40 years and now you have heard of it! Leak? I don't want to remove the hideous thing so much that I will cause a leak. I can remove it down to the bracket. It's just the cable I have trouble dealing with. Antennae looks like its from 40 year old technology.plus it sure doesn't lay flat and just needs to go. Still would like advice on removing it.

If you can get it down to the cable, maybe just a square of Eternabond tape over the cable end and you're good to go.
I have also have good luck with plumbers putty for something I want to be water proof, but remove easily at a later time.

Thanks Doug! That's a good, idea. The putty will probably be the best option for me. I just need to figure out how to remove the cable without destroying it. Although if I ever decided to put it back I guess I could get a new cable...but then I would have to figure out how to install it.

Can you just disconnect the cable from the roof mount and push the excess cable down just above the roof?
Pushing the excess cable into the roof/ceiling cavity?
That way you could get at it if needed and just reconnect.
Assuming you'll just leave the wall plate?

Just an FYI you will probably have 2 holes. One that is about 2" in diameter where the crank goes through the roof and another 1/2" hole for the cable, If you do remove it you will probably need a small aluminum plate for the roof and some kind of plastic plate for the inside ceiling.

I think I'm going to just try pushing the cable through like Doug suggests and plug the opening. I have a feeling if I tried to remove all of the antenna equipment that I would make it permanent, and get professionals to do the work. Otherwise I will really end up doing damage. Once the antenna and arm is off the roof, it will be just a little easier to clean and maintain my roof. Then I can stop wasting my time climbing up the ladder only to realize I didn't lift the antenna for cleaning.

Offense noted. Stand by recommendation to leave it alone, but then that is only my opinion. Yup 40+ years and don't know anyone who has done this. Guess I'm just not paying attention.
