Alaska Fishing regulations read like stereo instructions and vary from place to place. Just having a regulations booklet is not enough as the department of fish and game make updates throughout the season. Read and understand them carefully. Very few places allow 'snagging'. The salmon must be caught in the mouth. Some places do allow snagging, but often they are only during certain time frames. Some fishing areas will not allow treble hooks, some do not allow spinner or spoons, or bait, etc. etc. Many places even have time restrictions like 0700 to 2300 only.

They are all snagged.. The only legal snag is in the mouth. Have to let others go.
Guy has a pouch full of pretty flies..tried them all in different presentations. I didn't say a word, no reason to spoil his fun. He has just as much chance as snagging one as anyone else and he would have thought it was because of his fly and presentation.
They say when they really get running get one about every other cast. It's because there are thousands going up.

We had a trooper check everyone yesterday. Like you say they have to be hooked (snagged) in the mouth. No treble hooks here and can fish as long as there is daylight...which is always.

For those interested, I am posting a link to our Alaska trip during the summer of 2012. There are pictures and descriptions of our excursions and experiences. We had a Cougar travel trailer back then and have since upgraded to a 2015 Pinnacle 36FBTS. Will take the Pinnacle to Alaska one day too.

4 each St235/80R16 E Pro st radial, same manufacture code as my old power max. So same factory different name. Tread etc exactly same.
$582.80 total. Balanced as well. Alaska tire service. Great service. I think it's cheaper here than in Texas.
Staying in Eagle River state park tonight. 5 star but no hookups. Really nice.
Wife washed cloths while I got the tires and a new SIM card for my iPad with international data.
Going to head to Anchorage for some crabs for supper.
Road from Copper Center to Anchorage pretty good. One stretch short delay for road repair.
Saw a big moose standing in a lake just like you see in the movies. We turned around to get some pics and he was gone.
Will get oil changed in the AM and head toward Denali to see what we find.

The tires I took off the trailer were ST's, load range E. 3580 pounds per tire.
I think LT stands for light truck.
Tires had 9000 plus miles and a couple were wearing funny, like out of balance or misaligned belts.
Much cheaper to replace now than before a problem.

In your 2nd post of this thread you stated that you upgraded to the Lt's and now you have replaced them with St's. My intrest is in knowing if you reverted back to St's because you thought they would perform better then the Lt's had in the 9000 miles they were in use.

Ok, sorry about that. I meant E rated. They are the same ST tire. As stated two were wearing funny so I replaced them all for security reasons. The tire dealers that I've used won't put a truck tire on a RV.
Walmart does not even sell tires in Alaska.
We're at Denali Grizzly RV park tonight and for the next three nights. Decided to come on up. May go to Fairbanks and look around tomorrow. Bus tour Thursday of Denali.
Did some major house cleaning today. Nice and clean now.

Only read the last couple of pages of posts, so maybe this has been explained. On previous threads about trips to or in Alaska, I posted about our trips which have been planned around renting a Class C in Anchorage. Each trip was 2 plus weeks in length and we tried not to retrace our tracks from the first trip. A little hard because as anyone who has visited Ak, there just aren't that many roads. My ?? is the trip to Ak and then back to the lower 48 vs a long flight and spending all our time in the state. I can see the adventure in driving north thru C on the front end, but having talked to a dozen or more who have done it your way and about 90% were dreading the trip home. Many said never again and a couple offered to sell me their MH when it got home as they never expected to ever step foot in it again. To those who have never experienced a trip longer than Yellowstone from the mid west or a trip to Disney W, driving to Ak is like a trip to the moon. Not only is the distance very long, the roads can be extreme and in many areas very poorly maintained. The wear and tear on your RV and or TV is major and most experience significant repairs or things like tires, shocks, etc. If you break down in many places on the trip north, you will likely also face delays while parts and repairs can be arranged.
We left our TT in Ky and flew to Anchorage and spent our time there. When it was time to go home, back to the airport after dropping off the MH and 10 hours later we were in Nashville and 2 hours from home. What was the motivation for doing the drive up from the lower 48?

The journey on the mostly gravel (back then) Alaska Highway was an added bonus...
OH! and the ferry ride thru the Inside Passage from Prince Rupert to Vancouver Island!
We really liked Alaska; it was our destination and we do want to go back. I'm sure we will be driving the Alaska Highway again.

Just wondering. Wife and I love Alaska and are in the planning phase of our next adventure to the last frontier. We have not ruled out a drive north and have been talking with the rental company in Anchorage that we have used. They have a deal where you can arrange to pick up one of their new units in Indiana and drive it up. They offer a discount on the costs and a fairly liberal schecule for you to make the delivery. Difference?? The trip ends with a shuttle ride to the airport and a flight home. Wear and tear is on their dime and the adventure is all ours. Just an alternate strategy.

For us it is largely a financial decision to drive from FL to AK and back. A family of 6 makes for an EXPENSIVE travel budget if by air. Also the financials of renting while there don't work out well as we looked at nearly $5k for the unit with unlimited mileage and a couple weeks, which is just under what our overall fuel bill should be...
I have crossed the US twice east to west, but i was solo and a lot younger. I still question the sanity of it, but I will have a coDriver to tap in when needed.
