Lots to see between Texas and Alaska. Glacier nat park, Banff and Jasper Nat parks in Canada. Can run over to Yellowstone if wanted.
It's prolly cheaper to fly and rent for two people. Me, I like my own bed. I like to be able to pull over where ever I find something interesting and spend the night or more if I want.
Adventure for sure. Being able at almost 70 to do it and say I've done it.
Have meet and made tons new friends. We've been given and given numourous gifts to new friends. Wine, fresh caught fish, tackle etc. it's a great experience.

I've done both, I must say driving the Alcan was the best!
We had a great time on both but, I love the freedom of having no
time limits. We spent 3 weeks in 95 and 5 months in 2012.

Ustabslim--Just wanted to chime in to follow along. I live in Fairbanks, there is PLENTY to see here and it is much less "city" than our southern counter parts. If you make it up you can find a place to park the trailer and head to the Arctic Circle for a daytrip. If you make it up here look me up, I'll buy you a beer at one of our local breweries. Send me a PM!

Also, for those future travelers to our Great State, Walmart does in fact sell tires. They are about the best price around and didn't even charge me shipping. Other tire dealers that have shops statewide---Johnson's Tire and Alyeska Tire, I've dealt with both and both have been fair.

Thanks for sharing! We're headed to Denali 7/31 and will stay through 8/8. We're flying from Chicago to Anchorage and renting an RV. We're spending the fist night in Wasilla and the rest in the park's Riley Creek Campground. We're National Park people and have an annual tradition: we have a bag of all of the state quarters and every year upon returning from our summer Park trip, one of the kids pulls a coin and whatever state is pulled is where we have our next year's National Park trip. 2014 we had Michigan; super easy as we're in Chicago. At the end of that trip last summer my son pulled Alaska But we had a year to save, the kids are old enough to enjoy and remember the trip (11 and 14) and we're still young enough to enjoy and remember the trip So let's do it. We have our flight, camper, and campgrounds booked but no bus or other in-park things scheduled or booked. So I'm definitely interested in what you're doing! ENJOY!!!!

Alaska Trip

EllenT---we have plenty of National Parks here! You could check more than 1 off the list.

Which one did you visit in Michigan? That's my birth state.

Hi alaskahofferts! We visited Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore and camped in the Hiawatha National Forest at Colwell Lake. We LOVED it...beautiful spot!

We had wanted to visit Isle Royale NP but logistically and financially it was more difficult for us to swing than Pictured Rocks.

We LOVE Michigan!

All 3 of those places are awesome! I sure hope you did the boat tour of Pictured Rocks. The clarity of that water is amazing. Glad you enjoyed it!
