Alaska Trip

We left this am about 10 AM, 30 min for lunch at coopers BBQ in Llano, Tx. Then to Hereford, Tx. Mexican food for super. Now set up in Walmart here.
72 outside. Will get into high 50's tonight. About 600 easy miles today. Set cruise at 75.

We're going to go east of Denver thru the country tomorrow.

We were in torrential rain until past Brady, Tx.

Our lake has been 60 ft low for around three years. With the flood rain my dock floated this AM...as we're leaving. 30 ft rise and going up. But it will be even higher when we get back.

Hereford Tx is about 6000 people..couple hundred thousand head of cattle....feed lots in downtown. Hope wind stays in our favor.

Covering some ground. 75mph, what tires you running? ST tires usually are rated for 65.

I upgraded from 15 to 16's and running LT with 75 mph rating and 3500 pound vs 2500 pound load..so I have 5000 pounds excess safety for load. Tires stay very cool.

Day 2. We left Hereford at 8AM and headed north, drove about 700 miles today. We're at Glendo lake RV park in Glendo Lake WY. I would give it a 4 star out of 5. Pretty nice. Only draw back is all gravel ..but not muddy..but you have to pay extra to use shower. Only open 4-1 to 11-1. Walleye tournaments almost every weekend.
Will be headed toward Calarary in the AM. Thunder storms today random...one now as I type. 54 outside, but nice. Lots train noise last night....Lots range cattle noise now...but nice. Still running 75-80 avg 10.4 MPG. Having spaghetti with meat sauce tonight. Stopped In a small town, 1000 people, for lunch at a Thi restaurant ...it was awesome. You neve know, we've had some great meals at out of the way places.
Nice rainbow right before we camped. Just started hailing.

good luck, you are cruising right along. Don't forget to slowdown once in awhile and smell the roses.

Happy trails. I certainly would like to go back to Alaska someday!

Slow down begins at the Canadian border. One leg, 470 miles, we figure 2-4 days or more.

Covered an additional 600 miles today, spending the night in a KMART parking lot...in Great Falls Mt.....all to ourselves. Walmart was overflowing and this is only 1/4 mile away. Sat reception great. Quite.
Lots of delays for road repairs today. Have seen thousands of Antalope, hundreds deer, many ground hogs. Snow still on the peaks.
We are going to Glacier Nat Park for the next few nights. Going to stay at San-Suz Ed RV park and see things from there and generally rest for a few days.

Man, you've been making tracks! Like the pics. Don't be surprised when half the JOF shows up at your door for dinner.

We stayed in San-Suz RV park at Glacier Nat Park last night. Was going to stay a few days..but..park snowed and will not open for a few weeks. Can only see about 10 miles.
So we left this AM and headed to Canada and Banff Nat park but ran across a hot spring resort and RV park. Awesome...spring fed hot spring fed pool. Felt really nice. Also has a nice restaurant on site. Fairmont Hot Spring resort. We will leave here AM and head to Banff.
No problem going across border. Told we had over $10,000 Canadian...said that was each person. Asked about guns..none. Not a word about booze. Fast and easy.

Using debit card saves about 20 percent. They will take American cash but at face value...$20 Canadian..$20 USA. With debit cad its converted by the bank.

Having a blast. Only covered about 300 miles yesterday and 180 miles today.

I just got some more time off for my out west trip this july. I'ld love to try for Alaska. I'm wondering how long it would take from NY without killing myself. That was the original plan when I bought the Octane after only getting to Prince George B.C. with the bike last fall. I'm anxious to see if camp spots are any problem to find along the way. Where is your destination in Ak.? Or are you winging it? I was going to try for Fairbanks. Good luck.... I'll be tuning in.

We're are going to end up at Denli Nat park by June 10 as we have reservations beginning then for RV parking and train rides and other and outside Anchorage by June 16 at Eagle river state park for as long as two weeks for other train trips and ATVing...and fishing etc. No problem now with finding spots but by around middle of June gets hard. That's why we have reservations beginning middle June. If you stop early every day no problem as tons of road side pull overs. One night is all that's permitted in these though. And some of these road side pull overs are to die for. Nothing in Fairbanks to see as far as we've found, just a pass thru to the park.

We're set up in Jasper National park for the next two nights. Whistler camp ground. Will be taking tram to top of mountain tomorrow. Went thru Banff and ice fields today. Wow on the ice fields glacier. We have a no frills site in back. Nothing behind us but nothing. Mule deer galore.. Bears expected. Saw lots black bears today and big horn sheep. No wifi, no tv... Awesome
