Always look thoroughly!
Last July we went on our annual church camping adventure. This year we decided on Dinkey Creek in the western Sierra Nevada. On the way up, just 6 miles or so from the campground I pulled into a turn out to let some traffic by. When I began pulling back on the road, I felt and heard a horrendous noise from the front of the truck. I looked ahead before proceeding and saw nothing. You can imagine my surprise when I climbed out of the tuck and saw a snowplow marker that was bent over at 90 degrees protruding through the grill opening ( see pics) we were stuck, literally! It was in the shadows and completely camouflaged. Being out of cell phone range we just sat on the side of the road hoping someone would pull over and offer help. Not long after that we had some really wonderful folks stop by. First the couple that stopped by that were heading in the direction from where we were coming (Shaver Lake) offered to contact a tow truck and then a couple that were headed to our campground offered their assistance. Luckily, we knew what camp sites our group was in and they were able to let someone in our group know of our situation. So the tow truck and someone in our group with a truck to tow the trailer to camp showed up at about the same time. This happened on a Wed. and we were able to get the truck repaired by Sat. afternoon. Could have been a lot worse. We were able to camp for the planned 4 nights -just didn’t have a vehicle to drive around. A forestry employee stopped by when we were waiting and said he would contact Caltrans to tell them about the marker so it wouldn’t be a hazard fo someone else. Always pay attention!
