I replaced our toilet seals and added the available riser earlier this year when we thought the smells were emanating from the black but it turned out to be the grey tank. Very easy job--especially when it's plastic and not ceramic.
Oh the trials and tribulations of buying a used RV.

well could be the grey as in the bathroom the shower drain is not far and our shower drain can smell from grey tank ... get some grey water sanitizer and pour it down those drains

I get what you mean. However, what I thought was a horizontal pipe was actually the tank itself. The toilet is mounted right at the edge of the tank and the tank has rounded and angled corners at the bottom that look almost exactly like a pipe elbow. But....now you have me wondering, maybe I didn't see it in the mirror at the bottom of the tank.

I was planning on buying a toilet spray wand and try to put that in the tank to spray around. If that is the culprit that would take care of the issue.

Paintinfool3,

I've rinsed and used RV Digest it in the grey tanks, let it sit overnight and then dumped. But I still can't pinpoint exactly where the odor is.

What is the grey water sanitizer? Is it just tank chemical or is it something specific?

One idea that could work is to make sure black tank is 100% empty, use a shop vac and tape it to discharge line and turn it on,should be able to feel air being sucked into the vent,or if there is a check valve you can reverse and blow air in and see if air comes out the vent. Once you remove the toilet, you have to replace the seal, they are not re usable, just like a home wax ring,I flush my tank religiously before leaving campground, and I always leave at least 5 gallons of water and a packet of Aqua kem in there and no odor issues, but when trailer is in use and you flush toilet with vent fan on it will suck the fumes out like crazy. If you have female campers with you check the shower and sink drains for a hair ball clogged in there.,they can dry up between uses and smell terrible, just trying to throw ideas out there to help

Just a follow up after our trip. I installed a 360 Siphon vent on the black tank vent. It seems to have helped the smell inside the trailer considerably. The only problem now is it is so good at sucking the stink out of the tank it is coming into the roof vent in the bathroom. It was hot out so we just left the vent closed unless we were using the shower.

The 360 Siphon vent design has changed and is now tailored to retrofit on existing vents, so I did not have to completely remove the old vent, just cut off the top and glue the new vent on. A little self leveling sealer where the old feet to the vent were and it was done. About 5 to 10 minutes per vent. Now just have to do the grey tanks.

I'll have to see if the trailer smells after I pull it out of storage to winterize in a week or so.

Thanks for all the hints. I'll post an update when I get the trailer.
