Anti sway bar ?
Do you guys remove it comepletely when getting off hwys, backing up, and gasing up? Or just loosen it up? DW asked if it was completely necessary.

I always remove mine when backing into a parking spot or campsite where I may have to make a sharper than normal turning angle. It stays on when going through towns or getting gas.

I never remove them until I'm ready to unhook. I've done every type of maneuver you normally do (back-up, back-up on an upgrade, sharp turns, etc.) and never any issues or damage done to the camper, tow vehicle or hitch.

I put it on when I hitch up and take it off when I unhitch. Never had a problem.

I usually don't put it on until I am about to get on the hwy. Or take it off right before I have to get gas. I might just start loosening it up when I know I have to make crazy maneuvers or back into a spot. I have the EAZ we hitch system and in the manual it mentions not to back up with it on. I know you can because I did yesterday in a gas station but straight back no turning.

we were told to remove it when backing up and i still cant figure out why. i do remove it when backing up

Depends on the type of antisway. I have equalizers and they can remain on while backing.

I have never taken it off while backing, and I have never had a problem. IMHO, if you're jack-knifing so much that you're risking damage to the anti-sway bar, you're doing it wrong.

I remove in 2 instances. First, prior to making a very sharp turn into a driveway. I turned into a Uhaul facility to fill propane and heard a "grinding noise." When i looked, the ball connection on my hitch was bent up. Even after we straighted it with 36" pipe wrench it sometimes will bend again just while driving. I always take them off prior to backing into a space.
