Antifreeze Froze

I went to check on the camper today as the weather in the East Coast has been in the single digits overnight. I found today the antifreeze I poured into the toilet has froze. Should I be worried about this? I poured about an 1 1/2 of rv antifreeze after flushing.

RV antifreeze (the pink stuff) will turn to slush at about 10 degrees but will not expand like water....you are allright.

I remember my first time. I used 4 gallons when I only needed 1.5 gallons because I wanted to make sure there was absolutely no water in those lines. You settle down and it becomes second nature after you do it a few times.

I also used 4 gallons. 3/4 of the first gallon poured out on the ground. Opps! I guess I wanted to make sure nothing froze. I was super easy to do and next time it should be even easier.

When you invest as much money into a toy like this, we should be nervous. Other than my house, truck and that thing on my wife's finger, this is the biggest investment I have and I want it to last. Antifreeze is cheap, I would use 6 gallons if it helped me sleep better !!

Just be sure to drain your water heater first, leaving the drain plug off, then turn the valves so it's bypassed before pumping in the pink stuff. You don't want antifreeze in your water heater. You could use many gallons of the stuff (unnecessarily) if you don't bypass the water heater.

Why leave the plug out after draining the hot water heater? Thanks

I misspoke. You're right. No reason to leave the plug out after draining.

I also poured in half a gallon only to have it come out on the ground at least once. Back than, it was expensive stuff and hard to get hold of. There was a shortage of it years ago and remember paying around 10 dollars a gallon for it. Hasn't been that expensive for a long time. Supply and demand thing I guess.

I forgot to close the low water drains one time, and pumped a gallon of anti-freeze out on the ground, and went to get a second gallon until the wife said why is this pink stuff all over the ground!!!!!!

Winter prep for trailer is a breeze compaired to what it use to be. How many of ya'all remember the trailer that had a small air compresser attached to the water tanks that pumped air in as you took water out fo the tank? And no by-pass on the water heater! Just a word about them. DON'T use your big 240 volt 25 gallon 125 PSI air compressor on them. You will have a mess on your hands like you have never had before!
