We've been using FRS for a few years if traveling with more than one car. Great at the mall too.. wife shops while I drink coffee and watch the scenery. Works great..but you don't get the road info like in the old days with CB.

Yes, the FRS radios are nice and work very well when convoying. They also come in helpful when backing the RV into your spot as well as keeping up with the kids/grandkids at the campground. I do wish the CB's would become popular again like they were in the 70's but I don't think we will ever see that again.

I agree there are better choices for backing a trailer, car to car talk during a convoy, but from a safety standpoint the CB still has plenty of merit.

I have a Radio Shack special with the Radio Shack magnetic antenna. In the CB world these are both junk but do the job for me. Nothing fancy. I put a cig lighter plug on the power and ground and simply plug it in and squeeze the radio between the seat and console with the speaker pointed towards me (driver). The cig lighter adaptation causes some serious loss in performace due to "noise" on the power and ground circuits of the truck, but it still works.

I have been saved from hitting numerous "things" on the highway from fellow CB'ers, flooded lanes that could have suprised me real quick, etc.

I still throw mine in for any road trip I am towing, and any trip over 4-5 hours. We used this set-up for two years towing a 30' enclosed race car trailer all over the country and loved it.

Yes the trucker banter can get VERY vulgar at times, and at times more entertaining than the comedy channel on Sirius! lol

Just my thoughts...

Greg
