Anyone experience tire "scrubbing" with a tandem axle?
Hi all,
I was backing up my 32BHDS into a very tight parking spot last weekend. When I finished it looked my tires were misaligned. Scared the crap out of me.
I have since learned that with tanden axles, the center point is between the two axles, so if there is a severe backup, at an angle, the tires will slide or "scrub".
The solution, pull forward a few feet in a straight line!

I have a X23B hybrid TT and it is my first tandem axle trailer. I'll have to remember this tip in the future!

Yeah my 23B does that on pavement. Looks worse than it really is and probably is more pronounced on the Tor-Flex axles more so than the traditional rigid spindle trailers. My FIL's tandem axle equipment trailer doesn't show it nearly as bad.

I noticed that the first time I backed into the driveway. Thinking, "Oh good grief, what've I done now?" But like Ensign says, a few feet in a straight line will sort it out. Still unsettling to see tho.

I live in a Cul-de-sac. Every time I park my TT in front of my house I experience this condition and there is no way for me to "straighten out".
This would be a real "driving test" for some people as I have to be careful that I don't "take out" my neighbor's mailbox which is on the left side of the picture. You can see just the edge of it. Alongside the trailer, unseen, is a telephone service post that sticks out of the ground about 2-1/2 feet. And lastly, as you can easily see, there is a utility pole and retaining wall behind the TT at the street. There's not much margin of error here and parking can become further challenging if anyone's parked nearby.

I used that tandem axle misalignment appearance to get an old RV totaled off when some old fool drove into the side of it.. took it to the adjusters office for them to look at the damage and parked with it in that bind condition.. that put it over the top for costs to repair.. insurance paid more for the RV than I did...
