Asheville NC restaurants

All,

Taking the family to Biltmore for a few days here during the next week. Was wondering if anyone could recommend local restaurants that are "must-try". Not really a big fan of the big chains. Specifically a good spot for breakfast would be awesome. Thanks in advance.

Moose Café is a great place for any meal. Papas and Beers is a great Mexican place. Moe's BBQ on Sweeten Rd. is a great place. I know there are plenty more but these are some we have visited recently.
All near Biltmore.

Thanks Norty. We'll probably check out that Moose Cafe.

There's a Mexican restaurant (not a chain) but I can't remember the name. It's got good food and margaritas. It's across the road from Baltimore and Baltimore village. Not sure on breakfast joints, but we like the Brugers Bagles for a smaller bfast and coffee. We love Asheville and the surrounding areas.

And, of course there's several places to eat on the estate itself, although they may be a little more expensive than in the city. It's a very impressive place. ENJOY!

A big +1 on the Moose Cafe. We've eaten there several times. I also like the Little Pigs BBQ.

Try the West Asheville Lounge and Kitchen at 401 Haywood Street. WALK is a must-do when we are in Asheville.

Thanks for the recommendation Wander. You were absolutely right, it was fantastic. It ranked right up there with other Italian restaurants I've enjoyed in St. Louis, Boston, and New York. I was particularly impressed with their Focaccia bread.

We didn't have enough time to try the Moose Cafe' but it's on the list for our next trip this winter.

Thanks again to all.

Papas and Beers is my favorite Mexican place in Asheville.

The Stables at the Biltmore. The food was good. Service outstanding. And atmosphere was best. Where else can you eat in a horse stall Expensive, outrageous if you factor in the cost to get on the estate. But if you are visiting the estate anyway it is a must do, IMHO.

Another Broken Egg Cafe, Biltmore Park. Loved this place. Was across the street from REI and Orvis.

Agreed vcbice, the DW and I have been going to the Estate every fall since we got married 20 years ago. The Stable Cafe' is really good. The Bistro is quite possibly our favorite restaurant of all time. You can't have a bad dining experience in there. Cedric's Tavern was ok but I was envisioning a "Pub"-style restaurant and neither the menu, atmosphere, nor pricing matched that too much. Of all the dining options at Biltmore, this is probably my least favorite. Deerpark is good too for large groups. I've always said, if I win the lottery, Biltmore is mine.
