Attempted Break In

Bad start to the upcoming weekend. Someone attempted to break in to our camper and damaged the door. Luckily they weren't able to get in and do any more damage. Found one other trailer in the back of the storage lot where we park that was damaged, also a Jayco. Its odd they only targeted two campers.

The deadbolt still works but the other lock cylinder is shot, weather stripping is ripped, and door is bent. On the bright side it is still usable until I can get it fixed.

Thankfully it wasn't worse.
Any security cameras at the storage lot?

Only by the entrance/exit. The owner didn't seem interested in looking for any suspicious activity. Probably time to find a new place to park.

After seeing how they attempted to get in, I think it would have been relatively easy without the deadbolt. Just a reminder to everyone to always lock the deadbolt.

Not interested huh? He'd be interested if it were me. Happened on their lot and they don't want to help? Seems awful suspicious to me. Yeah, time for a new lot.

Many lots are owned by absentee investor owners. The folks in the office are just low paid employees who could care less.

Have you notified the police? They could request the camera footage.

Is your Insurance going to cover the cost for repairs?

Mine too... the police often want all the footage of these issues they can get. Often it's to build a case involving multiple crimes and each new chance to get video could provide the 'smoking gun' they need to get someone off the street.

I may be the lone ranger here - but were the contents worth more than the damages?

We don't store anything valuable in the camper. The only thing I would be worried about them stealing is the Window AC unit that is mounted in the camper. They would likely destroy cabinet getting it out. I am wondering if the Window style AC was the common theme between the campers they tried to break into.

I did file a police report. I will follow up with him tomorrow to see what if anything they are doing.
