Atwood 2010 Propane Range Recall Coming

Got a call this morning from Atwood regarding my series 35 propane range that came in my new Jayco (built in August, 2010).

It appears that they are investigating possible fire hazards when using the oven and said I should not use it. I was told it was okay to use the cook top. Apparently I will contacted by Jayco at a later date for possible inspection and issue remediation.

This is very interesting and not surprising. When I went through delivery inspection/pickup with the dealer we could not get the oven to light and swapped it out for a unit in the showroom. One of the techs casually mentioned that they've had a tough time with the pilot lights in the new units.

I'll post more as this develops

We had the same problem with ours. Our build date was Sept 9 09, The dealer replaced the controler. The oven works great now.
Thanks for the info.

Ours was also built 9/9/09 Wayne! Ours did light without problems, but we haven't used it since. We use it to store kitchen towels or paper goods . We will fire it up again next chance we get. Thanks for the recall heads-up 4dimnzn!

Thanks for the warning. We are due to ship from the factory on November 2nd. Maybe this is the reason for the little longer delay. I will ask upon our walk through and let you all know.

Thanks again.

This is my first RV that had an oven in it... (4th RV) I always thought it was difficult to light.. but had nothing to compare it with...
The dealer told me I could leave the pilot light on (when not traveling) but after 4 hours it sets off the CO alarm ... is this normal?

The alarm should not be going off just because the pilot light is on for several hours. Either a defective stove or inadequate venting in the trailer are the two likely suspects. I realize Jayco builds these to be as tight as possible but it makes no sense that they would pump them out to customers with this hazard.

Insofar as the dealer's comments: that's just irresponsible. A brand new unit should not have "work arounds" just because a device is difficult to use. Think of this way - would we leave our brand new gas stove at home idling at a low setting because the igniter was sketchy?

Hmm..our first TT with an oven - we use it on nearly every trip, but have always had a tough time keeping the pilot lit. Got to the point where I don't bother keeping it going because I don't trust it. Now, I simply thought that this was a qwirk and one of those things I needed to deal with in the trailer, so never called the dealer. I'll be interested in tracking this issue!

McMonk- Great work finding this. I hope the timing of the fix doesn't become painful as it's happening just as I'm going to winterize my unit. That includes washing and covering it.

True 'nuff...just winterized ours. I'm cheating though...I intend on camping through the winter. The water system will remain 'off-limits' and we'll haul water in and not use the tanks at all. Looking forward to west-coast storm season and all the wildness that comes with it (more rain & wind than snow here, or so I've been told). Getting the oven fixed is a bit of a priority though.
