?Automatic? Bathroom Vent

When we got to the campsite on Friday, the roof vent for the bathroom was already open. I could have sworn I had closed it before hitching up....

I chalked it up to CRS and spent a lovely 5 days in the wilderness.

When we packed up to go home, I made double-sure the bathroom vent was closed.

After unhitching and then firing up the fridge, I found the bathroom vent open!

The mechanism does not seem to have any kind of lock-down mode to it.

Anybody else have a bathroom roof vent that won't stay closed while on the road?

Anybody fix it?

I have had it happen to me once on an older rig. I attribute it to suction. The gears apparently just slipped with no damage.

Never happened again.

Did you have both vents closed or a window open?

The bathroom vent on our last trailer would work itself open when driving. Giving the crank and extra partial turn when closing to make sure it was tight solved the problem.

Used to happen on our pup probably 1 in 10 trips. Disturbing to look in the rearview and see the thing open when it was closed moments ago. Don't really think it was air pressure as the pup was packed so tightly there really wasn't any pressure to speak of. It could have possibly been cargo movement that hit the handle though. Never figured it out either.
Not a problem now with the MaxxAir cover I don't really worry about closing the vent anyway.

Thanks for the replies.

Looks like it'll be torqueing it down instead of just closing it gently from here on out.

Maybe drill and tap an offset in the knob for a setscrew to lock the knob in place.

Mine worked open once on the road. Since that time I have cranked the knob just a little tighter before traveling, and no problems since.

Had it happen just one time in a VERY STRONG crosswind in our old class B.

I knew the vent was closed, but I was bothered by an unusual sound that increased gradually over a few hours. I listened intently as we went down the road, but couldn't pinpoint where the increasing noise was from .... until the vent vibrated violently and SHATTERED in a severe gust.
