I was shocked to see how very far everyone drives each day in their Motor Homes.
Since My wife and I are retired, we are never in hurry to get anywhere. W get up in the mornings and have our coffee. I am usually up one to two hours before my wife.
Then we eat breakfast, close up the motor Home slides, check that everything is put away for the trip and we take off. Sandra is our navigator and she will check to see what is near by or on our planned route for the day.
If we drive a hundred miles or just 50 miles, we will possibly stop and see what is to see, Take pictures, have lunch, and decide if we want to stay there for the night or move on.

We don't like to drive at night since you miss so much when you do. We stop when we are ready, find a place to park. Usually boon docking. We may spend a couple of days in one spot if it is a pretty place or if we want to explore more.

We have never driven as far in a day as most of the folks that responded to this question.

Last year we left Texas, drove to upper Michigan, crossed into Canada, visit all 5 lakes and Niagara Falls, spend a day with an old Army buddy, and came down west of Lake Superior, and visited family in Wisconsin, Illinois and Indiana.

Drove out to North Carolina, spent a couple of days in my sons front yard. Then down to Key West, spent several days at a Naval Bass there, and returned to Texas.

Next year we plan to head out West and see what we may see. One day at a time, no hurry. and really no plan. Just go where we feel an urge to go.

We planned for several year to buy a Motor Home, looked at many of them and last January right on schedule, we retired and we purchased our 31 foot Jayco Greyhawk Class C. It is a 2005 with under 40000 miles and is like new.

That's the way I want to spend my retirement.

But in the meantime, we're both young professional business owners, so time away is a VERY precious thing. I don't want to say that leisurely travel is "wasteful", but to us, at this point in life, it kind of is. We rarely can be away for more than about 10 days at a time. MAYBE twice a year. So when we're out, we're trying to get somewhere.

Next year, I'm thinking of taking us up to South Dakota. The drive alone is almost 3 days. That's 6 days of travel, leaving only 4 days at destination (or destination area). The year after that I'm looking at Yosemite. When you're talking about 6 days out of 10 for travel alone (and that's not stopping to smell the roses either), transit time becomes critical for the distances we're traveling.

I fully understand. I spent 22 years in the Army and every trip was driving straight through and looking at nothing.
I am sure that our way of travel is restricted to the retired folks. We worked hard to get to where we are today and we plan to enjoy ourselves now.
You said you would be driving UP to South Dakota and it would be a three day trip. From that I would guess you are some place near Texas.
We live on the gulf coast below Houston.
Hope to see you on the road one day.

This question falls into the same group as "which truck", "which oil", "which RV", etc.

No right answer and everyone has a different reason for the distance/time they drive and that will change during the course of the trip.

Personally I have no desire to spend any more time than absolutely necessary on the travel between Ont & AZ when it's the end of December. Heading back late April we take more time and stop at campgrounds. If my wife would drive with the fiver hooked up I'd run the 36hrs of driving straight thru without stopping but I get tired after 20hrs.

For the wife and I, the only time we stop is for fuel. You are either driving or sleeping. Out longest drive has been about 1,700 miles from NE Ohio to Moab, UT. It took about 30 hours. Now that we are getting older we are thinking about putting a 24 hour cap on our drive time and then take 8 hours at a campground to regroup. You may ask, are we missing anything by driving straight through. Not really, once you pass Chicago nothing to see but corn and corn and then some more corn.

Absolutely untrue if you get off the interstate.

Absolutely true if you stay on it..

I am becoming more aware that we should not be road warriors. Driving tired is as bad as driving drunk.. We just lost a trooper who was doing a traffic stop and hit from the rear at 75 miles an hour by a tired non observant driver.

Used to do 16 hour a day drives solo.. No more.. Six per each us.. We did eight per each of us once in a snowstorm and that was not good.

How far do I drive a day in RV

I am a 74 year old traveler with a 74 year old co-pilot. I like to drive she likes penny slots. We travel the US from casino to casino. On a recent 11 day trip we went 3500 miles. On a earlier trip for 11 days we went about the same. I like to see what is around the next corner so I try not to drive at night. Our current RV is a 2018 Renegade Valencia 38RW Super C. We started RVing in the 70's and over that time we have had (first) Coachman C, GMC A (?) bigger gas including 37 foot Winnebago Elandon, some more gas, then a 98 diesel pusher, then bigger pushers all the way to two 45 foot PREVOST buses by Royal Coach, then more 45 foot pushers then a 2015 Jayco Seneca, then small again Winnebago 31J Aspect and finally back to diesel with current RENEGADE super C. Many coaches, many miles. I have driven 14-15 hours, but that is not the norm. 300 seems to be our average. I call our trips a "Walk-A-bout". (per the Crocodile Dundee character). We have a general direction, a few stops we would like to see, but in general we have no real plans, usually it is where is the next casino we can get to before dark. This coach has 100 gallons diesel 150 fresh water, 75 black and 75 gray so we have little need for a hook up on a two week trip. It makes it easy to roam. Last 11 day trip spent one night in a RV park and that was at a casino. We will go to Portland and West coast in March or April and on that trip we may tow our Ram 1500 and slow down a bit to visit harder to get at sites. As I said we are not campers, our stove, microwave, washer dryer, sat dish have never been used in 10600 miles. Last two coaches were sold with those items never used. Our used coaches bring top dollar because they are more or less new. In the 70's-80's we were campers and in the 90's 2000's we followed our son who raced so then we camped, but for the last 15 years or so we have been travelers.
For me the destination is the road as long as I am moving I am happy.
Happy trails.
