Awning Lighting

I know these lights are supposedly waterproof but as we all know when we unfurl our awnings more often then not they are wringing wet and water runs out of the tube and off the awning for awhile. The skeptic in me wonders how long our lights will hold up to that much exposure to moisture, waterproof or not............Time will tell. But right now they look great!

I have similar concerns about the exposure to water. Not so much on the strip, but on the ends of the wire. Î wish they had some sort of rubber plug covers top keep water out. One end sticks out of my awning a bit, the other end is rolled up inside. For now, the one that sticks out is folded back and rolled up. It won't fit into the slot on the tube so that isn't an option. May pk for some little water balloons or something to slid over the clip when not being used.

Got a question for those who have the lights installed and have used them. I keep my IR controller powered up all the time as it runs from a 5A fuse right off the converter. We just unplug the LED strip to roll the awning up. Yesterday we unrolled the awning and plugged the LED strip in and the lights wouldn't come on. I pulled the fuse to check it and found it was ok so I plugged it back in and my wife said the lights flickered. They then turned on with the remote fine. Has anyone else seen where power needs to be removed from the controller to power back up?

I was qll set for our first trip with the lights this weekend but looks like we are rained out. I normally wouldn't cancel a trip for some rain, but this will be multiple inches, all weekend long. 6 kids in a TT with this kind of weather could result in a fatality.

Looks like we'll need to wait a little bit longer.

Is it possible to power these strips directly from the TT battery?

I don't see any reason why not.
You may want to put an inline fuse and switch.
Any 12V source should work fine.

I asked that question earlier on this thread (or on another not sure :-) ). I was told that if you cut the cord at the power block and strip back the outer jacket you will find 2 wires inside. After that you take the same steps as you would for hard wiring an 12v device. I have not tried this yet. Still waiting on my 16' extension cable to get here.

I would separate the wires that go from the controller to the 12V power supply.
I would run a red wire to a switch, then to a 5amp fuse, then to a crimp connector to the positive side of the battery.
Then I would ground the 2nd wire to the frame or any available ground near my wiring.

Well finally had sun and 65 degrees today (and are we going to have some flooding) so I finally got to my install. I was excited about this before but after seeing it after dark tonight I am really happy I did this. Thanks for starting this post because I would have never done this otherwise!

I ordered my first set without the power supply and it came with this short pig tail. So when I ordered my new set with a power supply I wasn't expecting to get this pig tail, but it also came with the little short pig tail. This little short pig tail is what I used to connect my lights to the 12-volt power supply to the refrigerator.
