so one week away from our trip...hubby started to see his procrastination wasnt a good thing so he went out and put up the awning lights....it was very simple, thank goodness there was so much input on here...he ran them across the awning bar so you can keep the control box thing in the awning arm and when it came to cutting it he got scared and didnt trust me...but i told him just cut on the line and he did and they work perfect!!! so wonderful! i cant wait til next week

I'd be worried about your control box getting wet though.

Installed mine down the length of trailer along the rain gutter. Soldered two 15 footers to length, and with the excess lines the front storage compartment. Looks awesome! More than enough light. Big thanks to everyone here who started this idea, as I had never heard of these before joining JOF. Cheers!Click image for larger version

Installed ours last weekend, the camp host came to see what was going on. I think he'll have a string soon.

I've had mine installed the same way in the rain.
The pig tail was dripping wet, shook it off and plugged them in, no problems.
The way the plug sets in the awning arm, the connections don't really get wet.
I guess you could always put a baggie over it if you thought it would protect it better.

Best regards,
Doug

While I can't speak for differences in the control boxes, if any, there are differences between the waterproof and non waterproof strips. The waterproof strips have a clear, rubber membrane surrounding the entire strip. The non waterproof ones do not have that clear rubber covering.

Believe me when I say, the power supply and control boxes are not waterproof, only the lights.
