I mounted mine as some other have... directly to the camper side... immediately under the awning where it attaches to the camper side. Only thing I did in addition was that I put the LED strip inside of an extruded aluminum channel to protect it even further from the elements. THIS LINK is an example of LED channels available. I found them in 8' lengths from another website.

I used automotive molding tape by 3M to stick the channel to the side of the RV - then the double sided tape that is on the LED strip holds the strip inside of the channel.
I used a frosted cover for the channel to diffuse the light, and put silicone inside each end cap to further seal it up.

It's not 100% waterproof... but its better than nothing... and (in my very OCD type opinion) is a more professional looking install.

If the strip goes bad... it's an easy replacement.

I was certain mine were dead when we got to the campground a few weeks ago and they wouldn't light up. Against all hope, I found a drugstore in town and replaced the battery in the remote. That did the trick and we were back in business. We have the waterproof version, and so far no issues with moisture. Which is funny, since our awning is ALWAYS wet when we open it, even if it was rolled up bone dry. Drives me nuts that it's brand new and I need to get out there and scrub it.

Does anyone know how to program the DIY buttons on the remote? The way I understand it you can program only certain colors that you want to run with those buttons.

I've bookmarked this video to watch, hoping he will give instrux for programming the buttons. It's 30+ minutes long so I'm not going to watch the whole thing right now while I'm at work, but I have been meaning to figure out these buttons before we head out for our next trip on Saturday.

Thats a negative. The guy on the video doesn't know how to program the diy buttons.

When I got mine... I too was wondering how to program those buttons. I did some Google searching and found this quote:

Additional remarks:
When use DIY function, the first press a DIY key into custom color models, and then press the above six adjustment keys to add or subtract the red, green, blue button to adjust color, this time press any key except the DIY key and the six adjustment keys, can cancel the current regulation of color value, when once again press this custom button, the current color value will be stored. The next press this DIY key, will show a recent storage of the color value. There are six DIY key, that can be arbitrary set 6 kinds of color, between them is independent, will not influence each other.

(Taken from THIS LINK)

Unfortunately it seems the "DIY" buttons can only be used to store a custom color. They cannot be used to store a custom program (fade, flash, etc).
Bummer - - guess I won't be able to fade between green and yellow at the antique tractor shows...

Jayco design must have been following this thread because a lot of the 2014s with the electric awning have a light strip already installed. My Seneca has it. Thankfuly, something I don't have to buy and install. to please the DW.

I got my second set of these lights the other day. The remote works sporadically (which is better than the last one that didn't work at all). Anyhow, I ordered an RF Controller to take the place of the IR Controller. Has anyone else done this and if so, was it successful?

Re: Awning Lighting

I need to order a new set also. I look forward to your review of the RF controller.
