I just ran an extension cord up to the power adapter and sat the brick bring on top of my camper. worked fine, and easy take down and setup.

Cool. That was going to be my solution too. I usually carry a ladder with me anyway... Was just curious if you found a better way

I threw mine out after they failed last year, water got into the white control box.

What about mounting the white control box inside the orange plastic done where the porch light is? Take the bulb out, fashion a tap or take the end off and use the leads to power the white control box with DC, then a lead out to the strip mounted on the side of the trailer under the canopy?

I am sold on LED lighting for my TT. Did the same mod as Mikeyonline and have a couple more to do before I'm done.

More light Ideas

I purchased "mini" LED rope Christmas Lights @ Mernards, They are small enough to slide into the extra track on the awning tube. The transformer is very small & unplugs,( lights plug into 110) so you can roll up the awning, no issues. I choose BLUE lights no bugs!

The double sided tape has lost it's grip. I thought I saw somewhere in this thread about using 3m 1/2" automotive tape to fix the problem. I did a search but couldn't find anything, could someone point me in the right direction. Thanks.

Most auto parts stores have double sided tape for attaching car trim. This tape is very sticky and durable.

This or I found mine at Lowe's hardware. Just need to order another set of lights... The set I bought ended up getting installed inside the camper, above the slide out and tapped into the switch for the main area.

Thanks for getting back to me, do you or anyone else know if you have to do the whole length of the light strip or can you get away with just doing every foot for the whole length. I have no experience with the automotive tape.

You should do the whole run. If you just do every few feet, dirt and water will work in and they will just peal off again.

I made the post. Got the suggestion from a mechanic who happened to be at the register when I was purchasing the lights at the RV dealer. He installs the lights every day and suggested going to the autoparts store and getting the 3M auto trim tape. He has never had a problem with it.

Also, check the Mods section. There is a thread on it about LED lights that will give you a whole bunch of excellent suggestions.

I'm installing a blue set on the awning tube this weekend. The wiring is already run. I am thinking of using a small radio jack as the connector from the end of the awning support to the lights on the tube. I'm mounting the jack so that if the awning is accidentally closed without disconnecting the plug, it will simply pull away and unplug. I have some testing to do but it appears feasible.

My LED's I installed last spring made it through the summer but not the winter. Mine were installed on the awning tube. They showed visible rust under the silicone in several places. Some area worked, some didn't. Gonna get another strip and put them under the rail this time instead of on the tube. I unrolled the awning several times during the winter and it was always full of water. I guess they really aren't waterproof. I guess I'll try an ip67 or 68 rated set this time. Anyone else had them fail installed on the tube? How about under the rail?

I installed both under awning and on tube. The lights on the trailer have started to lift a little. I installed the awning LEDs using an auto trim tape and they are very tight. If the lighting holds up I am going to replace the trailer LEDs and use the auto tape. I hope they hold up since they are really nice. My awning is also wet if it's rolled for a while.

fmichaels, just askin'.....

Like recondite, my awning lights failed too and had rust in some places. I had it on the awning tube as well. So I ordered another set, but when they came in, the new set didn't have the tape on it like the older set did. What size auto tape should I get? Do the tape come in different sizes?

I used Xscorpian DSCT-14 clear tape (1/4" wide) from Amazon for the awning. So far this tape has performed very well.
