awning locking pin

I was extending the awning on my TT the other day and the locking pin that is attached to the horizontal stabilizing bar and fits through the hole near the awning roller fell out. I'm wondering if:

a) is this a vital piece that is in need of replacement?

b) how do you get in to replace it? I looked and can't figure out how to take the end cap off in hopes the end of the horizontal bar will just slide out and I'd be able to put the pin/clip put back in, or is there another way?

Thx.

62 views and no suggestions. Is there another locking pin on the other side of the awning? If so, perhaps a photo with a hand model pointing to the item in question would help.

63 views and a guess. I'm thinking a pin with a push nut on it. Need a photo.

The camper is on a seasonal site and we're heading out to there this coming weekend and will post some pictures upon return.

Be extremely careful when trying to remove the endcap or handle the assembly on the awning tube. When I picked up my new White Hawk last year, I noticed durin the walkthru that one of the vertical awning arms did not hug the side of the trailer when closed. Long story, but after more than an hour of attempting to adjust things they decided that the whole unit needed to be replaced. Not sure exactly what happened, but in the process of releasing the awning spool [?] one of the service techs received serious cuts to his hand requiring a trip to emergency for more than 20 switches. The extended awning is under significant tension similar to a garage door spring.

Unless there is an OEM pin that I can't find, does my powered awning need to have one? I don't want that sucker unrolling while driving down the interstate. I've seen them advertised but never thought much about it. What do you all think? Happy RVing
